Canada has become more diverse; now home to people from over 200 ethnic origins. •CIC reaches out to all Canadians to foster an increased intercultural understanding, and to Learn at Work Week Bringing communities together… What is a Human Library? • a way for people to connect with individuals in their community that they might not normally engage with •an opportunity for people within an organization to share ideas and experiences with one another • human libraries promote tolerance, celebrate differences and encourage understanding of people who come from varied cultural or lifestyle backgrounds What is a Living Book? •Living Books are people who are volunteers and share their stories with others in a safe environment Promoting learning and support in the workplace: •At CIC, Living Books are representatives from different communities, clients, and users. As well, Living Books represent employees from different parts of the organization •CIC’s Living Books provide free networking and learning opportunities in a fun, positive, and creative environment •A great opportunity to “borrow” a Living Book for a given amount of time, and ask them what you want to know Did you know? •The first Human Library was launched in Denmark in 2000 •The Human Library has grown in popularity, with 33 countries now currently involved!
