Newsletter Chapter of Society of Decorative Painters
Volume 31, number 4 July/August 2013
President’s Letter Greetings,
Hope everyone had a fun 4th of July Celebration. Is it hot enough yet? I guess Summer has
arrived. The coolest spot in my house is the basement and my painting space is down there
so I guess I’ll be doing some serious painting while keeping cool. I have some projects to
finish and donate for the Luncheon.
A Big Thank You to Rocky and Nancy for sharing their talents with us once again in May and
June. Rocky’s Tea Kettle turned out beautifully and Nancy gave many of our group their first
colored pencil experience. Nice job gals.
We are looking forward to Janet Lewis’ oil project in July and Joan Boyer’s seminar in
August: Get that prep work done!
You all know that our Luncheon is our only big money raising event each year. In order to
make it successful we ALL need to support it in every way we can. One way is by selling Raffle
tickets. I know that 40 tickets sounds like a lot but please take them and give it a try. We
have three beautiful items to chance off and if you show the photos you might be surprised
at the response. Sell what you can and just return the extras to Pat Slutter, BUT please don’t
refuse to even try.
Anyone with a centerpiece please get it back to Karen ASAP and also keep those painted
items, baskets and ornaments rolling in. So far I have seen some very beautiful donations.
Thank You All.
Please remember the FOOD PANTRY.
See you at the Meeting,
Nadine Lawless

Luncheon Update “Painting is My Cup of Tea”
Luncheon Tickets are now available- contact Carol Kafer to reserve yours. You can reserve a table for up to 10
people- please fill out the form in the newsletter with your choice of meals.
Our Annual Luncheon had to be changed to Friday October 25th at Skytop Lodge to accommodate our soldiers
returning from war overseas. They meet at Skytop with their families for therapy before returning to their homes
and the Army needed the Sunday that we previously had selected. We’re helping them for all they’ve done for us
to protect our country. Sorry for any inconvenience- in the past it always had been held on a Friday and it had
worked for us and we had no other choice this year.
Pat Slutter has your Raffle tickets and photos of our lovely Quilt, Tree with “Gingerbread Sweets & Treats”
Ornaments, and Clock w/5 switchable front panels. If you weren’t able to pick yours up at the June meeting-please
get them at this months meeting- our Chapter depends on you- this is our only fund raiser.
Favors are all done and we have a lot of the Centerpieces returned- and you all have really out done yourselves-
they are gorgeous! Returning the rest of the centerpieces and ticket containers will be highly appreciated
Still need auction pieces and baskets- please to help make our luncheon a success and donate one or more.
Don’t forget you can enter our Art Contest- just paint a piece in the theme of the luncheon. We all love to see
what’s entered and we love trying to guess who did it! If you’re a beginner- don’t be afraid to enter-beginners have
won before and you can too!
We will have a special contest for “Tea Party Hats” you and your guests are all encouraged to wear or make a hat
for our Tea Party. Can be Lovely or Funny- several nice prizes will be awarded & it should be lots and lots of fun!
Thank you all for helping!

Some serious ‘Whimsey’ from your editor so that we don’t have a blank page in the newsletter.
THE PAINTER’S PSALM Painting is my hobby, I shall want no other.
It maketh me to lay down my mop and broom,
And walk by my dirty dishes to my studio room.
It restoreth my peace of mind
And leadeth me into strange places, subjects to find.
Yea, tho I am alone with brushes and paints,
I feel no loneliness.
The sight of colors and odor of oils, they comfort me.
I prepare a canvas on my easel and paint
While my dishpan runneth over.
Surely, I will have a rainbow in the gravy at dinner,
And I will dwell in a state of confusion forever.

ODE TO MY WIFE – THE TOLE PAINTER
By Mollie Perry
She learned to paint on Monday
Her strokes were going fine
She forgot to thaw out dinner,
So we went out to dine.
She painted daisies Tuesday
She says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely
But she forgot to dust.
On Wednesday it was strawberries,
She said the blending is fun,
What highlights!! What shadows!!
But the laundry wasn’t done.
Her apples were on Thursday.
So juicy, bright, and red
I guess she really was engrossed,
She never made the bed.
It was violets on Friday,
In colors she adores.
It never bothered her at all;
The crumbs on all the floors.
I found a maid on Saturday
My week is now complete.
My wife can tole the hours away.
The house will still be neat.
Well, it’s already Sunday
But don’t call me a saint.
I cursed!! I raved!! I ranted!!
The maid had learned to paint!!!!
