KarolineandJulianweremarriedSunday,December18,1927.Theirfirstchild,Erna,wasbornTuesday,October2,1928.Fourteenmonthslater,theirsecondchild,Gertrud,wasbornThursday,December5,1929.Sixteenmonthslater,theirthirdchild,Julius—thesubjectofthisbiography—wasbornSunday,April5,1931.Theirfourthandlastchild,Frieda,arrivedtwenty-onemonthslateronSaturday,January14,1933.Itmusthavebeenalivelyhouseholdwithfourtoddlersbornwithinfouryearsandthreemonths.

andJulianKarlwastakenc.1930.ItwasextractedfromaChurchofGodgrouppictureinPinino.Thegroupphotoisalsoincludedinthisbooklet.Asyouviewthephotographsincludedinthisbiography,pleasebereminded,accordingtoJuliusEwald,thatinthosedaysitwasnotconsideredvoguetosmileinpictures.Notsmilingwasconsideredsmarterandprobablyabitofasocialnormatthetime.

TheKarlshadbeenmarriedalmostsixteenyearswhendadJulianwasconscriptedinto

theGermanArmy.Heleftthefamilyin1942,andtheyneversawhimagain.Manyyearslater,it

wasestablishedthathediedinarmyconflictinRomaniain1944atage41.Hiswife,Karoline,immigratedwithheradultchildrentoCanadawhenshewas56yearsold.Shelivedtotheageof96andisburiedinthecemeteryinDundas,OntarionearthegravesofthePastorandMrs.SonnenbergwhomshehadknowninPolandfromthetimesheandJulianbecameChristians.Itwashewhoofficiatedattheirchurchmarriageceremony.

Norbert(1960).Gertrud(1929)marriedArturSchulz,December28,1958,andtheyhadtwochildren:

SigridIrene(1960)whomarriedWilfAdam.Theyhavethreechildren:Janelle, Jason,andJustin.

Harold(1963)whomarriedSonyaSchroeder,hissecondcousin(granddaughter ofKaroline’ssisterOlga).Theyhavetwosons:GavinandGalin.

Julius(1931),marriedYvonne(1940),November24,1967.Theyhavetwochildren:

Caroline(1973),andRobert(1978)whomarriedNicole(1980)onOctober18, 2002.ThelifestoryofJuliusandYvonnewillbetoldinanotherchapter.
