Northside Hospital-Cherokee supports Creekland Middle School

Northside Hospital-Cherokee helped Creekland MS or-ganize a very successful blood drive with the American Red Cross for both the community and Creekland MS zone schools.

NSH-C has stayed busy donating funds to help Creek-land MS purchase an AED for the school as well as do-nating to the Success Maker Program. Top students in each class during the nine weeks of the Success Maker Program were given movie passes and Atlanta Braves tickets all donated by the hospital.

The hospital also partnered with Creekland MS during Aeropostale’s National Teens for Jeans Drive. Last year, Teens for Jeans collected over 1 million pairs of jeans from 12,000 schools across the nation. The jeans col-lected benefit selected homeless charities in Georgia. In three days Creekland MS collected 201 pairs of jeans for the homeless teens.

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Going Green Committee sponsored a two-day Newspaper Recycling Competition between ten of Cherokee County’s Elementary Schools. Boston ES collected an amazing 2,560 lbs. of newspaper during the two-day event, averag-ing approximately 5.2 lbs. per student! Great job Boston!!! Also doing a excellent job and coming in a close second with a 2,068 lbs. was Bascomb ES! Since they are a larger school, this averaged to about 2.2 lbs. per student. The following is the order in which the participating schools ranked by weight: Boston ES, Bascomb ES, Chapman IS, Sixes ES, Liberty ES, Mountain Road ES, Johnston ES, Holly Springs ES, Woodstock ES and Hasty ES.

Waste Management provided collection containers during the event and also assisted in determining weights col-lected, as well as recycling the newspapers. As a reward for their efforts and hard work, the Chamber presented each Boston ES student with a gift card for a free ice cream from one of three Chamber member restaurants; Cheeseburger Bobby’s of Canton Marketplace, Chick-fil-a of Towne Lake and IHOP of Woodstock. Seven of Boston’s PTA parent volunteers worked extremely hard to promote the event to their school. Therefore, the Chamber’s Going Green Committee also wanted to thank these parents for their hard work and presented them with a custom environmen-tally friendly insulated shopping bag which promotes not only the Chamber’s Going Green efforts but bag sponsor Express Impressions. The students, teachers and parents of all ten schools worked very hard to make this a friendly, educational and successful Recycling Competition! The Cherokee County Chamber would like to thank them all for their participation and the hard work that they put in to make it a success!

Macedonia ES would like to express their appreciation to Moss Family Chi-ropractic for their support of the Macedonia ES teachers and students this year. Dr. Moss recognizes that teachers who serve as grade level depart-ment chairs in the elementary schools give many extra hours for these du-ties without compensation. Therefore, he has generously supplied each of the department chairs with a complimentary one hour massage. Each month Dr. Moss supplies a complimentary 30 minute massage for Macedo-nia ES teachers who have been recognized by parents or their peers for go-ing “above and beyond”. Recently, Dr. Moss held a wellness clinic at a local church and brought by complimentary tickets for teachers to attend if they chose to do so.

Macedonia ES is also super excited to be implementing a science lab this year. The school contacted Dr. Moss and asked if he knew where they could buy a discounted human skeleton to display in the lab for students to study the human body. He immediately replied that he would like to purchase this skeleton for the lab and donate it to the school! Macedonia ES is very appreciative of Moss Family Chiropractic and all that Dr. Moss has given to the school this year. They have been a valuable asset!

Why Partner?

Cherokee High School student wins Just Driver Training Scholarship

Cherokee High School senior Tunde Aylinla recently re-ceived a driver education training partial scholarship from Just Driver Training. Owners Graham and Melody Gullett provided Tunde with driver awareness skills, proper vehicle control and the use of defensive driving techniques while preparing him for the driver’s exam, which he passed. The Gulletts said, true to his success on the school’s football team, “Tunde attempted the task with perseverance and determination and passed his test with flying colors.”

Students of the month at Clayton Elementary had a “Bo-Berry” good breakfast with Bojangles owner and new Part-ner in Education, Kristal Beaver. Mrs. Beaver arrived early with piping hot Bo-Berry biscuits for the students, and also presented each one with a coupon for a free kids meal at the Canton Bojangles. Pictured below are Rebecca Blocker enjoying a hot, made from scratch Bo-Berry biscuit. Carter Robertson is shown with Kristal Beaver, Bojangle’s.

Partners Assist Teasley Middle School

With First Annual Bingo Night

Teasley Middle School recently hosted its first annual Bingo Night on March 1st. The purpose of this PTSA sponsored event was to elicit student and communi-ty support for the school while also raising money. No fundraising event is successful without valuable partici-pation, so in true Teasley MS fashion, students, parents, staff and community members got involved. They do-nated items for prizes in six different categories: Family Fun & Games, Dining Out, Movies & More, Sports Fanatic, Spa Beautiful, and Pampered Pet. Teasley MS Partners in Education, Scentsy Wickfree Candles, Kroger-#402, Pub-lix-Riverstone, Cherokee Lanes Bowling, Play-N-Trade-Canton, and Stevi-B’s-Riverstone generously donated many of the items for the baskets as well. Teachers do-nated their talent and time selling tickets, working the concessions, and serving as MC’s. The Teasley MS cafete-ria was full of Bingo players, and the event raised over $2,000.00! It looks like Bingo Night will become an an-nual event at Teasley MS, and we express gratitude to all who participated in making it a huge success!

Chapman Intermediate School and Ribley Chiropractic became Partners in Education at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Ribley Family Chiropractic hosted a teacher luncheon and massage session to honor the commitment and dedication of Chapman’s exceptional teachers. Teachers enjoyed free massages, a catered lunch, and a sweet treat. Ribley will return to Chapman soon to honor the custodial and cafeteria staff.
