We were only one of 500 schools across the state to do the complete NAPLAN tests online. NAPLAN testing is a single testing procedure in Literacy and Numeracy completed by students in years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia. The results from these tests enable learning trends to be assessed and training, resourcing and funding to be equitably distributed to those schools in most need of support. As we are an online school results from these tests should be available to parents earlier than normal. More information, regarding student achievement, will be communicated to parents once the results have arrived. I would specifically like to thank Mrs Patkovic, Miss Stavrinos, Mr Becvarovski and all our wonderful year 3 and year 5 teachers for their hard work and patience. This has been a huge technical and organisational undertaking, which those executives and teachers have completed wonderfully. District Cross Country Carnival Our team of cross-country runners are off to the District Carnival on Friday. I want to wish every boy and girl the best of luck in their races. I am sure they will all do Chester Hill P.S. very proud. A big thank you to Mrs Probert for her work not only helping to organise the school carnival but also the organisation to ensure these students have the opportunity to represent the school at a zone level. Mr Tran will also be attending the carnival as an official on the day. Finally, I would like to thank Mrs Wiles who has taken on the role of District Cross Country Convener. If not for teachers like Mrs Wiles, no student from any Bankstown school would have had the opportunity to compete at the Zone level. I do not think all parents are aware that any teacher who takes on any extra curricula activity will do so in their own time and are not given any extra time or money to do these roles. I am sure the parent body is thankful and grateful that we have a teaching staff willing to do these extra activities for your children. CHESTER HILL PUBLIC SCHOOL Quality education in a caring learning environment

Tuesday 22 May 2018 Issue 7 Term 2 Week 4

Dear parents and students,

NAPLAN Congratulations to our year three and year five students for successfully completing their NAPLAN testing for 2018 online.

Exceptional and innovative learning programs

Stepping Stones to School Event This term our hub will be involved in the annual Stepping Stones to School Event held at Bankstown Library. Families with children starting school in 2019 are invited to attend this fun event where they can learn more about supporting their child to prepare for kindergarten. This event will be held on Wednesday 30th May from 10-12pm at Bankstown Library

Internet Safety for Parents Are you concerned about your child using the internet? We will be having a very informative session on everything you need to know to keep your children safe online. The session will be held on June 18th from 2-3pm in the community hub.

123 Magic Parenting Program Are your children giving you a hard time? Do you want to learn new skills on how to stay in charge with child discipline? 123 Magic is a parenting program run over 3 weeks on a Thursday starting from 21st June from 9:30-11:30.

P&C Term 2 Meetings Come along and meet other parents and find out more on school matters. Your opinion is highly valued, the more parents we have involved, the more we can do for our school. This term meetings will be on Wednesday 23rd May and 27th June from 2-3pm in the community hub.

New Canteen Menu

The new menu has now been introduced. We

understand that this menu is a big change for the

school community and appreciate your patience

during this change. The menu is a work in progress

and we will aim to make it work as best suits the

students and in accordance with the healthy

canteen guidelines.

The fresh menu is available daily; this includes

salads, sandwiches, focaccia’s, wraps etc.

However, the hot food menu is being trialled and

may vary from day to day. You can find out what’s

available when you come to the canteen.

Mother’s Day Stall Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to help run the mother’s day stall. It was a great success with at least $1500 raised. These funds will go towards purchasing school resources.

PSW Uniform Shop A reminder that the P&C no longer runs the uniform shop. Please note that any online orders placed during school holidays will not be processed until school resumes as all stock is held at the school. Items ordered to be delivered home will incur an $8.65 delivery fee, however items delivered to the school are delivered for free. Receipt of payment must be shown for deliveries ordered to the school.

School Banking Thursday is school banking day. Remember that each time a student banks they get a token, once they have 10 tokens they receive a prize from the bank.

Loose Change Challenge (LCC) This term, the student leaders have decided to take

part in a fundraiser called the ‘Loose Change

Challenge’ (LCC). Money collected through the

LCC will be donated to the Steven Walter

Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Over the next 5 weeks, each classroom will be

given a money box for students to donate their

‘loose’ change, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 or even $2

coins. The money from each class will then be

collected in Week 10 and donated to the childhood

cancer research. There will also be money boxes

located in the canteen and the office.

We are asking for our community to donate as

much loose change as they can to support this

great cause.

Don’t forget to make a change, with your loose

change today!

CRUNCH&SIP The Crunch&Sip program is an easy way to help

kids stay healthy and happy!

Crunch&Sip is a set break for students to ‘refuel’ on

vegetables, salad and fruit and ‘rehydrate’ with

water. Many students are not eating enough

vegetables and fruit or keeping sufficiently

hydrated.

This gives kids a chance to refuel, a bit like putting

petrol in a car.

Each day students bring fruit or salad vegetables to

school to eat in the classroom at a set time. Each

child has a small clear bottle of water in the

classroom to drink throughout the day to prevent

dehydration.

Through Crunch&Sip, schools demonstrate their

commitment to nutrition education in the classroom.

Permitted Food for Crunch

All fresh fruit is permitted (e.g. whole fruits such

as a banana or a small apple, chopped melon)

Fruit canned in water, juice or no added sugar is

permitted (e.g. peach slices). Don't forget a

spoon!

Fruit canned with artificial sweeteners added is

not permitted. Artificial sweeteners are not

recommended for children

Dried fruit is permitted, although, fresh fruit or

vegetables is the first choice because dried fruit

contains high concentration of natural sugar and

it tends to cling to teeth, increasing risk of tooth

decay (e.g. sultanas)

All fresh vegetables are permitted (e.g. celery,

carrot sticks, broccoli bits etc.)

Don't forget

To wash all fruit and vegetables before eating

Easy-to-eat fruit and veg is best

Buying fruit and vegetables in season is cheaper

and tastes better

Permitted Drinks for Sip

A clean, clear water bottle filled with plain

water. Only plain water is to be consumed in the

classroom

Don't forget

To wash water bottles daily

Don't share water bottles
