In England, we celebrate Christmas on 25th of December. We call this day “Christmas Day”. On Christmas day we open lots of presents.

In December, people decorate their houses with Christmas lights.

Also, people put up their Christmas trees and decorate them.

They use baubles, tinsel,

stars, and lights.

People also put wreaths on the front door of their house.

Another popular Christmas tradition is to sing Christmas carols. Christmas carols are songs about Christmas.

On 24th of December, Christmas Eve, children put their stockings at the end of their beds and in the night, Father Christmas brings them presents.

He fills their stockings with presents and he puts more presents under the Christmas tree.

Father Christmas only brings presents if the boys and girls are good the whole year. If the boys and girls are naughty, Father Christmas will not bring any presents.

In November or December children write a letter to Father Christmas with a list of toys they would like.

Father Christmas lives in the North pole and when he reads the letters from the children he asks his elves to make the toys.

The elves use wrapping paper to wrap up the Christmas presents.

On Christmas eve, the elves put all the presents on Father Christmas´s sleigh ready to deliver them to the children.

And Father Christmas prepares the reindeer.

Father Christmas´s sleigh is pulled by 9 reindeer.

Before the boys and girls go to bed, they leave a little present for Father Christmas and his reindeer.

Mince pies and sherry for Father Christmas and carrots for his reindeer.

When all the boys and girls are sleeping, Father Christmas brings presents to their houses. He comes down the chimney with his sack and leaves presents under the christmas tree.

On Christmas Day morning, when the children wake up, they find lots and lots of presents under the Christmas tree!

An important part of Christmas Day is the Christmas dinner. We eat a big, 3 course dinner with our friends and family. People decorate their dinner tables with candles, napkins and crackers.

Page 17: Christmas presentation

For a starter, we eat prawn cocktail or tomato soup.

Traditional Christmas Dinner is: turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Brussles sprouts, carrots, stuffing, with gravy and cranberry sauce.

For desert we eat traditional Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

Or mince pies with cream.

Or trifle!
