Nearly identical to the four other four-story buildings located in the Hill Community, it is home to approximately 160 residents, who enjoy its proximity to Bolton Dining Commons and the Tate Student Center. The rooms in Church Hall are traditional doubles, home to two students per room. Each room is equipped with a sink and community bathrooms are located on every floor. The Joffrey Ballet School aims to create and maintain a safe, supportive, and healthy living environment for our students. The UGA Residence Hall boasts both a full-time Joffrey Ballet School Head Resident Advisor along with Joffrey Ballet School Resident Advisors and Chaperones, all of whom live in the building.

The RAs are on call during daytime hours and on duty each night of the week to ensure that things run smoothly and to deal with any emergencies should they arise. The live-in residence life staff assists students in getting acquainted, providing support and information, looking after all of the students during social events and programs, and taking them back and forth to classes.

Building PoliciesOur goal is to give dancers an experience to remember while being safe. Safety is a concern for many parents and we want you to know we treat each and every dancer as family. Our housing facilities have strict rules in place to protect you and all those around. Please be conscious of these rules during your stay. Students are expected to fully comply with requests and directives given by Joffrey personnel, including instructors and all Residence Life staff. This includes requests for attendance at meetings, preferred behavior, and other community living etiquette that RAs require. Failure to comply with Joffrey personnel is considered a display of disobedience or disrespect and may result in referral to the Director of Residence Life for disciplinary action.

Laundry Washing machines and dryers are available in each residential community. Only residents should use the machines. If a resident is found using machines to wash items belonging to a non-residential student, they will face disciplinary action. If a machine is not working; report it to the front desk of your residential community. Make sure to note the ID number on the machine to expedite the work order process. For your convenience, vending machines are located in each residence hall.

A back up laundry facility can also be found at the Oglethorpe Commons. To use the laundry, participants need to obtain a VTS card through Bulldog Bucks.

If you overhear another student talking about kill ing people or threatening to bring a weapon to the school, report this to the RAs and law enforcement – you may prevent a disaster by doing so. Do not take their behavior lightly or as a joke. Report it immediately. Alert: Communicate when there is a dangerous situation.Inform as many people as possible within the danger zone that a potentially life-threatening situation exists. This can be facilitated via many different methods (text, email, calling, personal senses). Staff will text and email as many students as possible in order to inform students. Evacuate: If it is safe to do so, remove yourself from the danger zone.If it is safe to do so, evacuate the area. If local authorities ask you to leave the area, they have a good reason to make this request so you should immediately act on their advice. Listen to a radio or television (with headphones) and follow the instructions of local emergency officials and JBS staff. When you evacuate, make sure you hold your hands up when you face police officers and stay out of their way. If you have information for them, make sure you communicate any updates. Lockdown: Silence All Electronic Devices. Barricade the Room.If you are unable to evacuate safely, find a room with a door that will lock. Lock yourself in and barricade the door, keep quiet, turn off the lights, and hide if necessary. You may communicate with the police if you have information regarding the active shooter’s location, and you may need a plan to counter or evacuate the room if the shooter enters. During a lockdown, do not let anyone into your room. Even if your friend is knocking and yelling for you to let them in – the shooter could be forcing them to do so. For your safety, do not let anyone enter your room after you have locked your door.

Violence Or Criminal BehaviorJoffrey Ballet School shares the concerns that our dormitory remains safe and secure. Please be alert and report any suspicious situations and promptly report any threatening, violent or criminal behavior to the duty phone. When reporting an incident, please include the nature and location of the incident, along with descriptions of the people that were involved. Terrorism PreparednessIf a terrorist event happens while you are in class, follow the directives from Joffrey faculty and staff. If you are not in class when the event occurs, return to the dormitory as soon as it is safe to do so and observe lockdown procedures until further notice. The RAs will conduct a head-count and try to contact those who are not in the dormitory. The RAs will go door to door for updates and to issue the “all clear.” • If things are falling around you, get under a sturdy table or desk. When they stop falling,

leave quickly, watching for obviously weakened floors and stairways. As you exit from the building, be especially watchful of falling debris.

• Leave the building as quickly as possible. Crawl low to the floor if there is smoke. Do not stop to retrieve personal possessions or make phone calls.

• Do not use elevators.• Check for fire, smoke, and other hazards.• Once you are outside, do not stand in front of windows, glass doors or other potentially

hazardous areas.• Move away from sidewalks or streets to be used by emergency officials or others still

exiting the building. If you are trapped in debris: Use a flashlight, if possible, to signal your location to rescuers.• Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can hear where you are.• If possible, use a whistle to signal rescuers.• Shout as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.• Cover your nose and mouth with anything you have on hand. (Dense‐weave cotton material

can act as a good filter. Try to breathe through the material.)

If, for whatever reason, the RA on duty does not know the answer to your question, they will consult with their supervisor and either return your call or have their supervisor return your call. Q: When will I receive a housing assignment?A: Usually, the Thursday prior to arrival you will receive a welcome email with information about the dormitory and any necessary paperwork to fill out prior to your arrival. If you have not received an assignment by Friday prior to your arrival, please contact the Director via email. Q: Are dorms divided by age? How are housing assignments determined?A: Many factors are considered when we house students, including age, program, length of stay, and roommate request(s). Because of the number of factors we consider when placing students, we do not accept specific dormitory requests, but students may request a roommate. We do our best to accommodate roommate requests, but we cannot guarantee that it will be fulfil led.

Q: Will my dancer be going to class alone?A: No. Those 12-13 years old will always be accompanied by their chaperone. Those 14 and older can sign up with an RA escort until they learn the route and become familiar to travel with a friend group. Students under 18 must always travel in pairs.

Q: My dancer’s uniform hasn’t arrived yet and they fly to tomorrow. Help!A: The uniform provider is a third party organization that is unaffiliated with Joffrey and thus we have no control over uniform delivery. However, no need to stress! Until your uniform materials arrive, your dancer may wear a black leotard and pink tights (for ballet), or black biker shorts/jazz pants with a solid black/dark color top (for jazz/contemporary). Q: Can the meal plan accommodate food allergies?A: We work with our caterers to accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions and food allergies. If your dancer has special dietary needs, please submit a request through the dancer portal at your earliest convenience so we may alert our caterers.
