When we think about our water we usually look first to the high quality drinking water and wastewater servicesthat we pay for through our local utility provider. The value of our water services, however, goes far beyond ourmains and sewers and contributes to almost all areas of our lives: our personal well-being; the health of our riversand streams; cleaner beaches; recovering wildlife; new resources; reduced flooding; and a strong economy.
Each day the UK water industry collects, treats and then supplies more than 17 billion litres of high quality waterto domestic and commercial customers and then collects and treats over 16 billion litres of the resultingwastewaters, returning them safely to the environment.
The collection, treatment and distribution of our water all uses physical assets. Reservoirs, mains, sewers andtreatment works are the most obvious and represent around three-quarters of all assets. However, companiesalso need pumps, vehicles, IT, remote monitoring, control systems and other equipment. All are essential waterindustry infrastructure.

The water industry’s operations are underpinned by strong regulation that covers all aspects of the industry’score business – drinking water quality, wastewater quality, environmental improvement and price control.
Many regulations that directly affect the water industry are derived from EU directives – notably drinking water, urban wastewater treatment, water framework, groundwater protection, sewage sludge and health and safety atwork. Others, for example economic regulation, are UK specific including:
The Flood and Water Management Act 2010 (England & Wales)
Water Services Act 2003 (Scotland)
The Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2005
Planning Constraints including Part G in England & Wales
The Code for Sustainable Homes (England & Wales)
The Building (Scotland) Act 2003
With multiple legislations within the industry, there is a need to manage and enforce changes within the WaterIndustry. Improvements and repairs within the industry are usually undertaken in an Asset Management Periodof five years, where utility providers have a set period of time to complete multiple projects to provide the agreedlevel of service within the industry.
For further information on the improvements and regulation for the industry, please visit the websites of thefollowing key organisations.

Water regulation
Climate change is the biggest threat to the sustainability of water services. Water company operations and assetsare among the most vulnerable to a more volatile climate and are already feeling the pressure. More frequentdroughts, more intense rainfall and flooding are all going to influence investment planning for all aspects ofwater services.
The impact of greater water demand and improvement to infrastructure will continue to drive the price of watereven higher - greater levels of recycling makes both economical and environmental sense.

Whatever your Water Management needs, Keyline has all the rightconnections to offer solutions for your project.
The combination of urban development and intensified rainfall as a result of climate change can create someserious problems. Stormwater situations are challenges that may be unavoidable, but they can be effectivelyovercome when the right expertise is applied.
The increasing frequency of costly and damaging floods has highlighted the need for effective water management solutions.
Legislation changes, and an ever demanding consumer need for a positive environmental impact leads us toconsider all water management solutions.
Keyline offer Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), that provide a comprehensive range of options toreduce and control the flood risks and minimise pollution, enabling us to use water in a more sustainable andenvironmentally beneficial way.

The re-use of water through Rainwater Harvesting provides a cost effective way toincorporate sustainability in to the fabric of a new construction project.
The specification of sustainable products at the planning stage can assist the process. Manysites now have restrictions on the volume of water run-off, therefore the incorporation ofRainwater Harvesting can assist by greatly reducing the volume of water going to waste fromnew developments - SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems).
