TOPR has worked with City staff over the years to look for ways that we can save expenses. This year, TOPR filled the water barrels that provide weight to hold up the tents, rather than having the Fire Dept. do it (they pay for the water).
P2
The Fire Department believes that it is essential to have an ambulance on site dedicated to this event. In 2011 we had two transports and 2010 we had four.
There are no police officers on overtime for this event. Only on-duty officers are reassigned to patrol the event and man the information booth. We still maintain enough officers for calls and traffic control. Also, volunteers from Citizen Patrol, Police Explorers, CERTS and Maine Township emergency Services help us out. Fire has salaried personnel at their booth.
TOPR has paid some high school students to assist with clean-up each day but they may be able to boost that and decrease the number of City Public Works employees needed for the clean-up. We will explore this further with them.
