Class Dojo at Glebe Academy

We have been using Class Dojo as a means of rewarding positive behaviour at Glebe Academy for a number of years.

Up until now, we had chosen to only use the ‘Dojo points’ feature of the program, as we already had adequate communication systems in place for home school communication.

Due to the unexpected circumstances around Covid-19 (Coronavirus), we feel that the use of the program's wider features will make home school communication and the sharing of work done at home in the coming weeks easier for both parents and teaching staff.

Class Dojo at Glebe Academy

Many of you already have a Class Dojo account and will be familiar with its use to check on your child’s weekly report and to see points earnt.

We will now be introducing the use of the following wider features as well:

• Child Portfolios – a safe place for children to upload work and respond to teacher set activities

• Class Story – news and updates from your child’s class teaching staff• School Story – news and updates from all staff for the whole school• Messaging – a simple, private means of communicating with your child’s

teachers

This Parent guide is written to help all our parents to get connected and to set up their own accounts if they have not already done so.

It also contains information about all the wider features, including how to help your child to access their own Portfolio account, so that they can share work and keep in touch with their teachers during this period of school closure.

You will also find handy hints and tips as well as link to Class Dojo’s parent help pages.

Please rest assured that child portfolios are secure and safe. Only you,

your child and their teachers can see the work that they post on their

account. It is not possible for content to be shared.

Connecting to Class DojoThis slide is for parents who do nothave an existing account or have an account for Class Dojo but are not connected to a current class.

Using invitation code>Log in to your Class Dojo account, either by website or app>Click on ‘Parent’>Click on ‘Add child’ and enter your invitation code**Parent invitation codes have been reissued via

Parentmail.Please let us know ASAP if you have not received your code.

All about your Parent AccountThis is an introduction to ALL features on your parent account, including newer ones that we haven’t used before at Glebe.

Once logged in, your home page looks like this.

It includes stories (news, links and updates) from all your children’s classes as well as whole school stories. You can also see anything that has been posted on your child’s portfolios here and read comments /feedback.

All about your Parent Account - STORIESYou have the option to ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on any story posts here. Click on the heart to ‘like’ and it will turn red.

You can type a comment or raise simple queries here, bearing in mind that they will be seen by all parents in the class on class posts, or by the whole school on school posts. Staff will respond via comments or might ask you to email the class account.

Teachers can posts live links to relevant files, activities and websites here.

Live links show up in blue and simply clicking on them will redirect you to the appropriate source.

All about your Parent Account -MESSAGESGlebe Academy staff will not be available via Class Dojo Private Message at this time. You will find the account is set to quiet hours and a message directing you to our class emails for enquiries.

If you have an enquiry about items posted on Class or School Stories can be made by commenting directly below the post, however these are not private. Anything of a personal or confidential matter must always be communicated using class email accounts, please. Thank you for your cooperation.

All about your Parent Account

A request…Please be respectful when communicating with us on Class Dojo.Public comments on class or school stories is not the place for complaints to made about the school. Any such comments will be removed and parents asked to redirect their concerns via private message or class email.Just as we insist that parents and carers treat our staff with respect during any face to face interaction at school, the same is insisted upon when using Class Dojo.We will not tolerate any abuse of Class Dojo, including derogatory comments about the school, it’s staff or other parents or children.Persistent posting of such comments, or inappropriate / abusive messaging will be dealt with with an appropriate degree of severity and access to Class Dojo for those parents involved will be stopped.Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Connecting your child to their student account and portfolio From your parent account:

>Click on your icon, top left

>Select your child from the drop down list to go to their portfolio

*NB This shortcut to child portfolios is only available in the app, not in desktop use. If you only have desktop use (e.g. PC or laptop) please email your child’s teacher using the class email address provided, and they will send you a link.

Connecting your child to their student account and portfolio You can also quickly find your child’s unique QR code on your parent account app >Click on your child’s avatar and then on the three dots in the the left corner.

>Go to dojo.me / Class Dojo log in page on a different device and choose QR code option

>A QR scanner will open for you to scan the code from your screen.

*NB This shortcut to child portfolios is only available in the app, not in desktop use. You may need to set your permissions

to allow Class Dojo to access your device’s camera to use QR login. If you only have desktop use (e.g. PC or laptop) please email your child’s teacher using the class email address provided, and they will send you a link.

Parents Using Desktop Only:

Any parents who only have access to Class Dojo using the desktop site (e.g. on PC or Laptop), must contact their teachers using the class email addresses provided to request a link to connect them to their child’s portfolio account.

Your child’s home page Your child’s home page looks like this in the app.>Click on your monster to customise it.

>Scroll down to read stories, posts, updates from your class teacher. Teachers will post links to learning activities here too.

*NB children can not comment on posts in stories. You may need to allow popups on your device for links to work. Desktop (PC/laptop) view looks slightly different, but all features are included.

Your child’s portfolio

Click on your child’s class or ‘activity’ to view and add to your child’s portfolio:

>Click on a ‘To Do’ task to begin an activity set by your teachers

>Click on the blue ‘plus’ to create a new portfolio entry

>Scroll down to see all your child’s completed portfolio entries*NB Desktop (PC/laptop) view looks slightly different, but all features are included.

Portfolio features :The ‘To Do' tasks are portfolio entries that are requested by the teacher for completion.

>Click on ‘Start’ to begin the task and it will automatically take you to the correct format. This could be photo, video, drawing etc.

*NB you will need to set your permissions to allow Class Dojo to access your device’s camera and microphone to use photo /video and to record captions.

Adding to your child’s portfolio

Your child is encouraged post examples of work that they have completed from their packs that we send home via Parentmail. They are more then welcome to share other news and events with us here as well as we would love to see them!

To make a portfolio entry:>Click on the blue ‘plus’. *NB Desktop (PC/laptop) view looks slightly different, but all features are included.

Adding to your child’s portfolio>Choose what kind of portfolio entry your child will make (photo, video etc)*NB you will need to allow access to your device’s camera & microphone

>Use the on screen camera/ drawing pad/ journal to create your work. You can also add files by browsing from your device files (including compatible photo/video files)

>Photo’s, videos and drawings can be accompanied by a typed caption or a voice recording. Click send arrow to ‘Hand in’ when complete.*NB Desktop (PC/laptop) view looks slightly different, but all features are included.

Adding to your child’s portfolio:>Your child’s work will be shown in their portfolio with a clock icon. This denotes that the post has not yet been seen / approved by a teacher.

> Teacher’s will give feedback and approve the work submitted. Once approved, the clock icon disappears and you and any other teachers that are connected to your child can leave them feedback by typing a comment!

You will notice this area when using your parent account.

This is for an ‘at home’ version of class dojo called ‘ClassDojo Beyond School’ that parents can choose to use if they wish, to reward positive behaviours.

Please be aware that there is a cost to this and that it is no NO WAY connected to your child’s school accounts. Teachers have no access to this and do not see any content from this site, even though it appears within your parent app.

The school accounts are FREE to use.

*IF USING THE APP, PLEASE GO INTO YOUR DEVICE SETTINGS AND TURN NOTIFICATIONS ON FOR CLASS DOJO SO THAT YOU ARE KEPT AS UP TO DATE AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS FROM CLASS DOJO OFTEN END UP IN YOUR JUNK/SPAM FOLDERS TO CHECK REGULARLY*
