National Law University Jodhpur occupies a unique niche among the country's premier law

schools. Located on an aesthetically congenial residential campus in one of India's greatest

heritage cities, the University offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary professional education that

blends the study of law with humanities, social sciences, and management. Students, faculty, and

staff form a small, tightly knit community devoted to the life of the intellectual inquiry and

rigour. The teaching pedagogy is innovative and prolegomenous aiming to create scholars who

can carve their own paths and build upon the instruction offered to them through a host of

resources and platforms. The institution does not seek to impose a single viewpoint or style of

thought on its students but encourages proliferation and amaranthine learning. The cornerstones

that provide the foundation of our educational mission are the life of the mind, participatory

learning, interdisciplinary inquiry, and an education for future leaders.

With its emphasis on the acquisition of broad and basic knowledge of law, an understanding of

the functioning of the legal system, and the development of analytic abilities of the highest order;

a degree at the University prepares students for any professional role they might choose -legal

practice or legal education, entrepreneurial ventures, international private or public law practice,

corporate practice, government service, alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and

mediation, or pro bono work with non-profit organizations. Graduates do many things in their

careers, and they all take with them the analytic skills nourished during their years at NLUJ.

A viogorous classroom environ coupled with our thriving research centers and programs enrich

our students’ education through daily lectures, roundtable discussions, and conferences, and also

serve as catalysts for scholarly work and student involvement on issues and activities in

multifarious spheres of law.

Since its inception in 2001, a major mission at the University has been to develop and

disseminate knowledge through scholarly research that critically analyzes the development of

law and related disciplines. The institution’s research mission is broad, encompassing a broad

range of thought from the empirical to the theoretical; from pure legal topics to far-reaching

interdisciplinary inquiry; from local, state, and national to international and comparative law.
