A beautiful green…

Cora Claudio

• Cora Claudio

… & blue environment to all of you!!!

Dear God,

Awaken our minds for a

productive successful conference.

Touch our hearts

with the glorious oneness of all Creation,

and penetrate our souls

with the beauty of this earth.

Grant us the wisdom to realize

that we can have heaven on earth,

if we shall care for each other,

for our oceans, & for all your Creation.

Amen.

Climate Change

"How will the climate change over the next century under both natural & human influences?" Steven E. Koonin

Dir.,Ctr for Urban Science & Progress, NYU;

Challenges:

Uncertain climate's response to human & natural influences & uncertain impact of

such influences

SCOPE

CC Subjects or Issues TargetedObjectives & GoalsStrategies & Processes/Methods:

Policies to OperationsResults: changes introduced,

benefits gained to dateKey Barriers Met, Lessons Learned, Replicability/Transferability

Opportunities: What, where, how?

Green Economy: economy that "should

contribute to

eradicating poverty, as well as sustained

economic growth,

enhancing social inclusion,

improving human welfare &

creating new opportunities for

employment & decent work for all

while maintaining the healthy functioning

of the earth’s ecosystems."

Blue economy:

“…..stands for a new way of designing business: using the resources available in cascading systems, where the waste of one product becomes the input to create a new cash flow.”

Jan Steffen, IUCN

”…transition from a product-based

to a system-based economy.”Dr. Catia Bastioli, CEO, Novamont S.p.a, European Inventor, 2007

Blue economy: Some basic principles

•Substitute something with nothing

•Natural systems cascade nutrients, matter & energy – waste doesn’t exist

•Any by-product is the source for a new product.

• Josephine Ll. Turalba

But in building a blue economy as a

CCA & DRRM strategy,

we must give priority attention

to the blue ecosystem. Why?

And we must consider recent developments

* Regional: ASEAN Economic Integration

* Global: From MDGs to SDGs
