A new Arctic blast will descend upon the region behind the
coastal storm Thursday night through Saturday, with
dangerously low wind chills and very cold air. We have had
plenty of Arctic air recently, but this outbreak will be the
coldest so far this winter. Lowest wind chills: Friday night –
Saturday morning.
In addition to significant risks of hypothermia/frostbite, this
may cause problems such as frozen pipes if preventive
measures are not taken. Improper use of alternative heat
sources could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
After the coastal storm, lake effect snow will develop and
persist southeast of Lake Ontario, with blowing and drifting
snow at times. Slick roads and low visibilities can be
expected in parts of Central NY.
