1-ACT PLAY COMPETITION; THE PLAY’S THE THING, FRIDAY & SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th & 10th , 8PM, AUDITORIUM: Collington welcomes a National One Act Play Competition. This event in the past has been held at the Howard County Center for the Arts and the Greenbelt Arts Center. The sponsor, Thunderous Productions, routinely promotes Collington in its playbills and advertising. This is traditional theater at its core and for this competition, actors must rely on their ability to not only sustain a character in a short time but do so without amplification; in other words, mics can’t be used. Events of this type showcase Collington’s support of the performing arts, as do the many recital and choral offerings throughout the year. This event is open to the wider community; Collington residents will be able to purchase tickets at a discount. Some events are free at Collington; some off campus are as well. Many require ticket purchases; others are free. There is a transit charge for buses. Other residents may choose to car pool. These two evenings are in our own auditorium and provide a look at the range of our interests to those who do not live here. The four plays are: STREET SCENES by Francine Jamin; EVER AFTER by Matt Hanf; MULTIPLE CHOICE, a pithy courtroom drama by Ron Tochterman; and THE JOB by Letha Dawson, a southern- tinged drama. The last named is directed by Trix Whitehall, familiar to


some residents as one of the gossipy harpies in THE EATON WOMAN.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE: The library committee has just made its September purchase of new books. You can see currently popular new fiction, mystery, history, biographies by looking in the binder just as you walk in the front door of the library. They will be listed under NEWLY ACQUIRED BOOKS --AUGUST 1-31. If you prefer to get your information online, there are bookmarks by the computers giving you the log-in information and directions. FITNESS/POOL TRANSITIONING: As we shared with you earlier, Patrese is relocating to Kentucky and her last day at Collington is today (September 9th). Alex and Q will certainly be available to assist


you in the Fitness Center and Swimming Pool. A few items worth mentioning during this transitional phase: Patrese was working on the expansion of Fitness Classes offered here at Collington. This expansion included a plan to how the fitness equipment is used. Ideally, the equipment is in three places; Fitness Center, Auditorium closet and Game Room Closet. The Game Room closet has been completely organized and should remain this way to account for all equipment. Moving forward, we ask that all Fitness Equipment that belongs to Collington be completely accessible. No equipment should be locked at any time, unless designated by a Collington staff member. If the equipment belongs to someone else or an instructor, that piece of equipment should either be (1) labeled as theirs, and/or (2) taken with them at the end of class. If there is a need for additional equipment or any general questions/comments during the transition, please direct those requests to Karen Boyce (Chief Operating Officer). HALLOWEEN IS COMING!! Save the date!! Collington celebrates on Saturday afternoon, OCTOBER 29, from 2:00 -3:30PM. We invite Staff kids and Grandkids 12 and under. We welcome ghosts, goblins, super-heroes, ballerinas, fairy-godmothers, Smoky Bears, pirates, witches, and other persona — spawn of vivid imaginations. After a year’s hiatus, Halloween returns to Collington with renewed vigor! We will have our traditional Trick-or-Treats, haunted house, face painting, fortune telling, games of chance, and refreshments. Stephen King opens The 2016 Library of Congress National Book Festival on the Main Stage at 11 AM with a presentation and recognition of his lifelong work promoting literacy. A Message from Marion Robbins: I arrived at Collington in late May. I am a Yoga teacher, with a teaching certificate from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, where I graduated in 1994. I also was certified in yoga therapy from Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy in 1995. I have been teaching yoga ever since. I would like to offer a weekly yoga class at Collington for whoever is interested. The yoga I teach is a mindful, slow yoga, based on breastwork, restorative stretching, guided relaxation, and mindfulness. This type of yoga creates self-awareness while eliciting the relaxation response, balancing the nervous system and optimizing self-healing. It is known to improve immune function, enhance digestion, release habitual tension and cultivate a calm body, clear mind, and an open heart.

Gene Davis, Building Manager. Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Air Force, subsequently worked the private sector. Gene’s professional career expands some 25 years working in a variety of settings to include senior plant manager in the power industry and power plant operations. He is experienced in supervising teams of employees with commercial equipment and operations; implementing emergency response action; preventative maintenance programs; team operational

training and power plant safety. Prior to joining the Collington team, Gene worked in Virginia at the INOVA Hospital System. In his spare time Gene enjoys mountain-bike riding and spending time with his family. Robert Reigle, Information Technology Manager.

Robert’s professional career includes over 15 years of diverse management experience including operations management, information technology management, network engineering, administration and support.
