Principals News

Swimming Carnival What a fabulous day we all had at the pool last Friday, I would like to thank all the staff especially Mr Kelly, for their effort in organising and running the day for our students. This year we have 27 students that have progressed to the Macleay Carnival on Wednesday 13th February. This is significantly higher than the previous two years and I would like to congratulate everyone for their effort and sportsmanship that they displayed on the day. Verge was the winning house on the day and a special congratulations needs to go to the following students who were the age champions on the day. Pippa K Junior Girl, Haylee O 11 year old, Mikayla P Senior girl, Cooper R and Cooper P joint Junior boys, Matthew C 11 year old and Jaie R Senior boy champion. Dunghutti Language This year each home room class will be involved in Dunghutti language lessons with Aunty Gloria and their home room teacher. Students will be learning words and also a song which they will sing with other local schools later in the year. Each home room class will participate in these lessons for 1 term throughout the year. The first three classes to commence this term will be both investigator home rooms and Mrs Cassidys class. If you have any questions about this please contact the office. Meet the Teacher This Thursday 7th February from 4:30-5:30pm parents and care givers will have the opportunity to come and meet the teachers and discuss the class routines for this year. All K-2 parents will meet in the Discoverers Hub in the administration building, the Creators will meet upstairs in their Hub and the Innovators will meet downstairs in Mr Kelly’s room). During these sessions there will not be time for staff to discuss individual students with parents and carers, please make an appointment if you have any concerns. Safe On Social Thursday 28th February all students in years 3-6 will be involved in a presentation from Kirra from Safe on Social. The school is covering the cost for all students to attend this important presentation. The students will discuss how they can be safe on social media and how they can react when they encounter disrespectful behaviours online. As a school we would encourage all parent and carers to monitor their child’ online activity and report to the school if you have any concerns about any bullying behaviour involving our students. Below is some tips on how to keep our students safe online. For more resources please see https://antibullying.nsw.gov.au/ How do I keep my child safe? There are a number of key ways to keep your child safe online. Remind your child to tell a trusted adult if they are bullied online. Tell your child not to share their passwords with others. Remind your child to only give their mobile number or personal information to trusted friends. Talk with your child and understand the ways in which they are using the internet and their mobile phone. Find out the age restrictions for the sites and applications your child wants to use. Depending on the age of your child, set up your own accounts and ‘friend’ your child. By doing this, you can understand how the site’s privacy settings work, see what your child posts online and how your child responds to posts made by others. Make sure that your child’s account settings are set to ‘private’ to control who sees their information. Know how to block unwanted users. Encourage your child to only be friends online with people they know in day-to-day life. Remind your child to think carefully before they post comments, or upload or send images online.
