Mandatory Recycling at a Glance
Effective July 1, 2014
To be in compliance with the new State and County regulations all businesses are required to:
• have recycling service
• recycle all cardboard, recyclable paper, glass food and beverage containers, aluminum and plastic containers
• subscribe to a service level sufficient for all recyclable materials
• place only recyclable materials in recycling containers

Services Guide Fremont businesses are required to keep cardboard, paper,
bottles and cans out of the landfill to comply with new State and County regulations. These new regulations are intended to
conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gases.
Recycling for BusinessFremont offers multiple programs for businesses to reduce waste:
• Business Recycling Program: required for all businesses generating recyclable materials.
• Composting for Business Program: for businesses generating food scraps and compostable materials.
• Dry Materials Program: for businesses generating wood, scrap metal, shrinkwrap and other dry materials; free onsite assessment required.

Step 3: Get Needed Tools
The City of Fremont and Republic Services can provide posters, signs and decals or
stickers for an effective recycling program.
Step 4: Staff Training
It’s important to get all employees educated and motivated. City of Fremont and Republic
Services staff are available for training to start up programs and refresher trainings to
help your staff.
