Bishop's Circular Regarding theANNUAL RETREAT FOR THE CLERGY

Diocese of KumbaKonam- 2013Rev. and dear Fathers,

I would like to bring to your notice the following requests regarding the AnnualRetreat to be held in two batches in Pillar Pallotine Animation Centre, Maduraifrom Nov. 3 Sunday Evening to Nov. 8 Friday Noon, 2013 & Nov. 10 SundayEvening to Nov. 15 Friday Noon, 2013.

1. I invite all of you to attend the Annual Retreat without fail. This year the retreatwill be preached by Rev. Fr. S. M. Selvaraj S.J. - Retreat Master, ThozhamaiIllam, Kanyakumari.1.1 "Priests as well as deacons aspiring to the priesthood are obliged to fulfill

the Liturgy of the hours daily in accordance with the proper and approvedliturgical books…" (CIC, C.276 § 3).

1.2 "They (Clerics) are… bound to make a retreat according to the prescriptionsof particular law" (CIC, C.276 § 4).

1.3 "They are to be conscientious in devoting time regularly to mental prayer,in approaching the sacrament of penance frequently, in cultivating specialdevotion to the Virgin Mother of God, and in using common and particularmeans for their sanctification" (CIC, C. 276 § 5).

2. In case you are not able to attend the Annual Retreat this year (2013), getprior permission from me. Also inform me when and where you are going tomake your Annual Retreat, and get my signature in your Mass Diary.

3. You are expected to attend all the sessions and keep complete silenceeverywhere during the entire retreat.

4. It is a closed-retreat. So kindly by all means avoid going out till the retreat is over.5. Kindly be on time for all the spiritual exercises, conferences during the retreat.6. The information about the batch to which you belong is sent to you.7. You will receive the further details about the Retreat from the Vicar General and

Vicars Forane.8. For any special need you may contact the Vicar General (Cell: 94437 03438),

PRAY FOR US SINNERS...


Respected and dear brother - priests, religious and laity,

A mother once approached Napoleon seeking a pardon for her son.The emperor repl ied that the young man had committed a certainoffence twice and justice demanded death.

"But I don't ask for justice," the mother explained. "I plead for mercy."

"But your son does not deserve mercy," Napoleon replied.

"Sir," the woman cried, "it would not be mercy if he deserved it, andmercy is all I ask for."

"Well, then," the emperor said, "I will have mercy" And he spared thewoman's son.

This incident teaches us that a loving mother has tremendous powerto obtain mercy for us.

We have been given a mother by Jesus who can obtain forgivenessfrom God for all our sins. The Church believing in the powerfulintercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary asks us to recite theRosary unceasingly during the month of October which isespecially dedicated to the Mother of Rosary.

When our dear heavenly mother prays for us, will Jesus show mercyto us? The miracle at Cana (Jn 2: 1-11) and all the miracles that arewrought by God in Lourdes, Fatima, Vailankanni and Poondi willanswer this question.
