Welcome, Maya and JazWe are happy to welcome our new Assistant Managers, Maya and Jaz.This daring duo began in the fall of 2012, meeting via an online artist gallery through a mutual interest in art and jesters. Maya is from the quaint city of Charlotte, just southwest of Lansing, Michigan, and Jaz is from Hampshire in the south of England. For fun, they both enjoy playing video games, creating digital paintings, taking long walks in any direction, and studying ancient history and cultures. For the last eight years, they have been living and working together as a team in Seattle, Washington. They are both very excited about Boston, and they’re looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing in the Community!
Puppy LoveResidents really enjoyed a wonderful visit with Gail and her four puppies. We got to play with them and hold them ... the tough part was giving them back!

The Best Apple Varieties for Eating Fresh
Planning to load up on apples while they’re in season? Here’s a list of the best apples for eating fresh. All of these varieties are juicy, flavorful, and crisp.
Sweet apples are great for snacks, healthy desserts, and balancing with salty and savory foods. Note: There’s an Apple for That, a website that — as the name implies — is all about apples. The best are:
• Crispin (Mutsu)
• Fuji
• Golden Delicious
• Gala
Tart apples — if you’re “a sucker for foods that make you pucker,” then tart apples are suited for your palate, says There’s an Apple, adding that the variety of apples available means there are plenty of options for fans of tart, or acidic, foods. The tart apples that are best for snacking are:
• Cortland • Goldrush • Granny Smith
Sweet/tart apples — then, there are the apples that fall in between, not quite sweet and not quite tart, including:
• Cameo
• Ginger Gold
• Honey Crisp
• Liberty
• McIntosh
If you like a sweet-sour flavor, see how you like these apples.
We will be having a “Apple Tasting Party” here at Magnolia Heights.

’50s CelebrationPlease join us as we celebrate with a blast from the past at our ’50s celebration event on Tuesday, October 19th at 2 p.m.
Enjoy root beer floats and cake, games and enjoy the wonderful Elvis impersonator, Robert Black!
We will be awarding a prize to those who come with the best ’50s attire. Get out those poodle skirts and leather jackets and put on your dancing shoes because it’s time to rock and roll! We hope to see you for this special outdoor event. Feel free to bring your friends. Guests should make a reservation with Carolyn in the office.
Name BadgesEveryone in the Community has received a Magnolia Heights name badge. It’s recommended that we all make an effort to wear them. It’s not only beneficial for the new residents, but for the charter residents, as well. It makes it so much easier to learn someone’s name. (Not to mention that it’s great when we forget someone’s name, and we don’t have to ask!)
If you have misplaced your name badge, please come to the office for a replacement. Thank you!
