CWPS Newsletter Term 1, Issue 2, 2020 Principals Message Swimming carnival The swimming carnival is on next Wednesday for Years 26 so cross fingers for a fine day. It is a lovely day and there are 25 metre races plus games in the shallow pool for students who are not confident enough swimmers to compete in the 50 metre races. Permission notes and money was due last Wednesday. Thank you to all parents who have returned these already. If you have not returned your note and money, please do so on Monday. Aendance A reminder that we send automated emails to parents if we do not receive a Skoolbag or wrien noficaon giving reasons for your child being absent from school. This is in line with Department of Educaon guidelines requiring us to ask for this within 2 days of a child being absent. You may receive an email when you have already sent an explanaon. Please simply ignore this email. We encourage parents to use the Skoolbag App to send in noficaons for student absence. Research shows that regular aendance at school is vitally important to academic and social progress. Aendance is monitored by teachers and the Learning Support Team. Concerns regarding aendance may require us to follow up with parents. The Department Home School Liaison coordinator checks our aendance regularly and students with aendance below 85% are flagged as a concern with follow-up through the department guidelines, which may include reporng to Family and Community Services. Voluntary contribuons Notes went home about voluntary contribuons this week. This money helps us to provide technology resources that we could not otherwise fund, as we get limited funding in this area from the Department of Educaon. I have only just put in an order for 35 new laptops for stage 3 cosng over $50 000. We will also be updang the iPads for K—2 and chromebooks for Stage 2 as well as charging staons. All contribuons are welcome but this is voluntary. Have a lovely weekend! Allergy Reminder

A number of students at Concord West Public School have severe allergies resulting in a

condition known as anaphylaxis. The severity and range of symptoms varies from person to

person. Please note that, while the school can never be considered a nut-free zone and nut

products are not banned in the school, we do ask for parents’ co-operation in providing

alternative food products for their children. For some affected children even the slightest contact

with nuts or nut products or other allergic foods can result in a life-threatening reaction. We also

ask that you discuss with your children the importance of always washing hands before and

after eating and not sharing their food with others. Parents, when you send in cakes and other

party food please check packaging to ensure that, as much as possible, that they are nut free.

Students can be allergic to any number of things, including fruit, eggs and man made products.

If your child has anaphylaxis it is a mandatory requirement for all schools to meet with

the family to prepare a medical action plan. Please ring the school for an immediate

appointment if this applies to one of your children.

All student health concerns should be reported to the school. Please note that we can only

administer prescribed medications. We request that when you take your

A few reminders

It is compulsory that students attend school during school hours. Appointments should be

made outside of school hours. If your child is late, you must come with them to the office to

obtain a late note. If an emergency appointment is required please go to the office to

obtain an early leavers note.

We try to develop resilience in our students. Please let your child develop this important

skill by not bringing in forgotten hats, water bottles, homework, library books etc after

school starts.

We have 360 children at our school and, as all kids do, they can misplace their belongings.

Please label hats and jumpers clearly. Please do not let your child bring precious items to

school.

Please be considerate of our neighbours by not parking across their driveways or double

parking. To keep your children safe please do not call them across busy roads

All students not picked up on time know that they are to report to the front office. Please

reassure your child that you will come if you are running late or not at the usual pick up

spot. If you are going to be late, please call the office before 3.25pm.

Parents are reminded that they are not to approach other children to discuss any issues or

concerns they may have with the child or the child’s family. Please speak to the class

teacher or for serious issues make an appointment with the Stage Assistant Principal - Mrs

Cooke (Kindergarten), Mrs Eadie (Years 1 & 2), Ms Bryce (Years 3 & 4) or Mrs Kumar

(Years 5 & 6) or Ms Self.

Appointments to see teachers can be made through the front office if you need to discuss

any concerns or issues with a teacher. Teachers have meetings before school on Tuesday

and after school Monday and Wednesday.

Please ensure that any open wounds on your child eg cuts on knees are covered securely

so that the wound can remain clean and not become infected.

If your child has a toileting accident and the office staff give them clothes to wear from our

supplies, please wash these as soon as possible and return them to the office.

We do not encourage sending food for your child’s class for their birthday due to allergies.

However, if you are bringing in lollies or cake for your child’s birthday, please inform the

teacher before the day. It is best if you supply cake to send a small patty cake for each

child. If would like to bring in single serve birthday cakes please bring them to the office by

9.30am so they can be taken to the classroom in time for recess.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
