RADIOTHERAPY AND SURVIVAL IN BREAST CANCER
BUCHHOLZ T, LANCET 2011, 378: 1680-2
![Page 27: CONGRES SFCP 2012 AJACCIO 11.5.2012 ANALYSE CRITIQUE DARTICLE BRUNO CUTULI INSTITUT DU CANCER COURLANCY - REIMS](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081602/551d9da3497959293b8d42e4/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
With respect to the first issue, findings from
the EBCTCG meta-analysis clearly show that
patients with breast cancer have clinically
relevant rates of persistent locoregional
disease after conservation surgery with and
without systemic treatments. The magnitude
of this risk is dependent on several factors,
including axillary lymph-node status, tumour
size, tumour grade, age, and oestrogen-
receptor (ER) status. The analysis shows that
radiation is highly successful in eradication
of much of this disease.
![Page 28: CONGRES SFCP 2012 AJACCIO 11.5.2012 ANALYSE CRITIQUE DARTICLE BRUNO CUTULI INSTITUT DU CANCER COURLANCY - REIMS](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081602/551d9da3497959293b8d42e4/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
… the success of radiation in reduction
of
recurrence varies according to biological
subtype of breast cancer. In the EBCTCG
study, the proportional reduction in risk
of recurrence with radiation was nearly
60% for ER-positive disease treated with
tamoxifen, but only 35% for ER-negative
disease.
![Page 29: CONGRES SFCP 2012 AJACCIO 11.5.2012 ANALYSE CRITIQUE DARTICLE BRUNO CUTULI INSTITUT DU CANCER COURLANCY - REIMS](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081602/551d9da3497959293b8d42e4/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
The data from many thousands of clinical trial
patients reviewed by the EBCTCG
investigators continue to provide us with
crucially important insights. The data
reinforce the important role that
radiotherapy has in management of breast
cancer, and the fact that the benefits of
radiation are complementary to the advances
in both surgery and systemic treatment is
particularly rewarding. The incremental
benefits of each component of treatment
contribute to the ongoing success in
reduction of breast cancer mortality rates.
![Page 30: CONGRES SFCP 2012 AJACCIO 11.5.2012 ANALYSE CRITIQUE DARTICLE BRUNO CUTULI INSTITUT DU CANCER COURLANCY - REIMS](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081602/551d9da3497959293b8d42e4/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)

apport considérable de l’imagerie (TDM++)

CONCLUSIONS (I)
![Page 44: CONGRES SFCP 2012 AJACCIO 11.5.2012 ANALYSE CRITIQUE DARTICLE BRUNO CUTULI INSTITUT DU CANCER COURLANCY - REIMS](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081602/551d9da3497959293b8d42e4/html5/thumbnails/44.jpg)
