CPT is a systematic linking and coding of procedures and services used in out-patient settings. This coding is required for billing and reimbursement by insurers. The Kingsborough Simulation Center for Emergency Care and the Health SciencesKINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IN COLLABORATION WITH ITS OFFICE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, is now a recognized American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site.

We off er AHA courses for healthcare personnel such as, but not limited to, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, surgical technologists, physician assistants, certifi ed nurse aides, physicians and dentists.

We also off er other AHA life-saving courses such as First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defi brillator (AED) use.

All of our instructors are credentialed by the AHA, seasoned professionals, and have been carefully selected to provide instruction and profi ciency in these areas.

RTP 41Advanced Cardiac Life Support forHealthcare Providers (ACLS) (T)This advanced highly interactive course provides the skills to highlight the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, immediate post-cardiac arrest care, and the identifi cation and initial care of other life-threatening clinical situations such as a stroke. ACLS also covers airway management and related pharmacology. Using the latest 2010 AHA guidelines, there will be large-group sessions and small-group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented and reviewed. Kingsborough Community College is a New York State Department of Health certifi ed training center, and is pleased to off er an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course designed for fi rst-responders to medical emergencies.

This EMT Certifi cation program prepares you for the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services Certifi cation, which is valid for three years. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the fi rst members of the health care team to respond to a medical emergency.

Introduction to EntrepreneurshipThis is a 2-hour overview of the risks and benefi ts of self-employment. Participants will be introduced to the attributes of being a successful entrepreneur, and gain an understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of “being your own boss.”The Commercial Real Estate Series will present three workshops relating to leasing or buying commercial properties in New York City. These classes will be taught by an attorney, but are not intended to substitute for the services of a licensed attorney familiar with individual negotiations.

Understanding a Commercial LeaseThis workshop guides participants through a typical commercial lease and alerts them to provisions that can lead to an unfavorable lease. Participants will learn the “language” of a lease: “triple net,” “escalations,” “demising walls,” “CAM charges,” etc. They will also learn about their rights as a commercial tenant in NYC.

Negotiating a Commercial Lease This workshop helps participants understand what type of lease provisions and concessions they can typically negotiate with a landlord. Commercial landlords will learn the basics of structuring a tenant lease.

Continuing Education courses are designed for adults 18 years and older with the exception of the College for Kids Program and the SAT/Regents Test-Prep. See programs for individual requirements.

Courses with a (T) indicate that a text will be required.

All Continuing Education participants are required to follow College rules and regulations. These are available from the Office of Public Safety in the Library building in room L202 and on-line at www.kingsborough.edu

FEES § A non-refundable $25 registration fee is to be paid each

semester, regardless of the number of courses taken. § Parking is $22 extra and is available on a first-come,

first-served basis. § Course fees do not include textbooks or supplies. We have

indicated when a course requires an extra fee for materials. Materials fees must be paid for courses where indicated.

§ We accept WIA/ITA Vouchers for most programs. § An income tax deduction is allowed for expenses of education

undertaken to maintain and improve professional skills. Please consult your accountant.

§ The Office of Continuing Education will accommodate requests for letters for reimbursement by Employer or Union.

REFUNDS

Full refunds (minus the $25 non-refundable registration fee) will be made to any registrant who submits a request in writing to the Office of Continuing Education before the first session of the course. § Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing. § No refunds will be made once a course has begun. § No transfers will be made after the second class session.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

In order to earn a certificate, you must meet an 80% attendance requirement; receive a passing grade (grading is Pass/Fail although you may request a letter grade from your instructor at the first class), and complete all assignments. Most certificate programs are approved by the NYS Department of Education for the training of veterans and others eligible in accordance with Section 1775, Title 38, U.S. Code
