The course identified in this handbook will attract a fee, where a fee applies it has been mentioned in the course brief throughout this handbook. All subject fees are outlined in the Student Resources Handbook which is available at the office.

Fees will be invoiced within the first month of course commencement, invoices will be sent home with payment instructions and due dates. Please note only financial students can stay enrolled in a course to receive a certificate of qualification.

Some courses will only proceed if sufficient numbers of students enrol at the time of Subject Selection process.

RATIONALE

Corinda State High School provides learning pathways which allow students to pursue courses of study which support both their academic and physical performance goals. Our commitment to this philosophy has led to the implementation of the Football Excellence Program to support the growing popularity of football in the Corinda community.

The Football Excellence Program course has been designed to provide players with the opportunity to further develop their football skills whilst completing essential Health and Physical Education course work.

AIMS

The Football Excellence Program aims to:

▪ Provide students (with identified football talent) an opportunity to develop their game skills andexpose them to facets of Football from fitness conditioning and nutrition for performance to skillacquisition and learning strategies.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS To be eligible for participation in the Football Excellence Program, applicants must be of an acceptable standard across academic and football achievements, and behaviour. An ideal applicant for this program will possess:

▪ a high standard of football skills and technical ability;▪ the ability to work productively in a positive team environment;▪ the ability to achieve a satisfactory standard in other academic subjects at Corinda State

High School;▪ an exemplary record of attitude, industry and behaviour within a school community;▪ the capacity to cover course costs;▪ a passion to pursue Football excellence and promote football in all of its facets; and▪ a desire to demonstrate cooperation, courtesy and commitment at all times.

As a guide, the following is expected for students who apply for Football Excellence: Boys – Playing club football at a Division 1 level or higher (eg. BPYL, NPL) in a recognised club competition. Girls – Interested in playing football through school or is currently playing at a recognised football club.

Students who are accepted into the Football Excellence Program will be required to compete in all Football competitions across the school year. These students are also expected to participate in other sporting events within the school such as athletics carnivals and school cross country.

Students must be prepared to embrace the school uniform and behaviour policy requirements.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Junior School Football Excellence Program has up to four lessons per week dependent upon the year level.

Year 7 3.5 lessons per week 4 lessons per week 4 lessons per week

Additional training sessions, before and after school, may be required when preparing for upcoming competitions. Over the three years, students will participate in:

▪ Football and futsal skill development▪ Fitness training for football and futsal▪ Strength training▪ Stretching, Flexibility and Recovery sessions▪ Theoretical Health & Physical Education units▪ Participation in various district, regional, state and national

competitionsThe Senior School Football Excellence Program consists of three 70 minute lessons per week with additional training before and after school when preparing for upcoming competitions. Over the three years students will participate in a specifically designed program to move student towards elite football rank and the completion of theoretical coursework which contributes to an ATAR.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

The Junior School Football Excellence Program will adhere to the requirements of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment Reporting Authority (ACARA) guidelines. Students will be assessed using the assessable criteria across the two strands of the HPE learning area. Essential knowledge and understanding will be assessed through theoretical units of study integrated with a practical learning environment to ensure a high quality of learning experience. Across the course of study students will be required to demonstrate the development of skills that contribute to consistent high level performance. The units studied within this program are:

Physical Activity and Fitness Games and Sports Sexuality and Reproductive Health Recovery

Respectful Relationships Mental Health Promotion Personal Identity and Sense of Self-Injury Prevention

PATHWAYS

The Senior School Football Excellence Program is an elective subject that may be studied by Year 10, 11 and 12 students who have displayed an aptitude and commitment to improve their Football skills.

During year 10, Football students will participate in a Leaders of Evolution sports leadership program. This program is specifically designed to support young sports men and women navigate to hurdles they may encounter as elite athletes.

In senior, Football students will participate in a two year Football Program designed specifically to enhance knowledge and skills for elite football performance. This course will be aligned with the Sport and Recreation Pathways and will contribute to an ATAR.

EXTERNAL PARTNERSHIPS SUPPORTING FOOTBALL EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

Through community partnerships, students in the Football Excellence Program will receive external specialised training.

▪ Partnership with Lions Football Club, with coaches working at both a club and school level, anincreasing number of ‘shared’ players, and information in regards to player development,workload, and injuries communicated between both club and school. Corinda SHS’s homefixtures are played at Lions FC training grounds – Archerfield Rd, Darra.

▪ Partnership with Royal Victory Functional Training which provides engaging life skills and athleteworkload sessions for all Football Excellence students to compete at the highest standards.

▪ Personalised strength and conditioning training plans developed by qualified physiotherapists.

▪ A developing relationship with post-secondary education institutions who look to provide

opportunities to students wanting to complete tertiary qualifications, while also playing football in a

FEES The current course fee for year’s 7 – 10 students is $220. This fee contributes to the cost of training kit, student participation in Schools Premier League Program, South East QLD Futsal Championships and the expertise of qualified strength and conditioning and physiotherapy staff.

Throughout the year, students will be required to participate in competitions and tournaments that will attract an additional cost. These competitions and tournaments may include:
