AEC POLE DIVISION occupies an area of 30,000 square meters and a plant of 7,000 square meters nearby AEC Headquarters.

The attention given to the architectural value of the plant supports, as usual, the image of a growing Company that keeps investing on new technologies in order to ensure its customers a range of lighting systems even more complete and competitive.The handling of raw materials inside the plant is managed by a completely automated warehouse, both during loading and picking: an imposing structure gives the possibility of storing steel tubes up to 12 meters long.

The software used provides automatic picking, while the positioning on the cutting machines is ensured by appropriate motorised shuttles: a modern and fast concept that guarantees the safety of the workers.

In AEC r&D department activities are directed to the study of technological innovation in order to improve the performance and quality of the luminaires and production processes.Here at AEC we are always looking for new advanced components, both for the designing of new luminaires and the upgrading of the already-existing fixtures. AEC’s mission is to always remain competitive in finding new alternative components solutions for outdoor and indoor efficient lighting especially through the r&D department, who takes care of Photometric Laboratories, Electrical safety and EMC electromagnetic compatibility tests for starting designing and development phase. New product design and development is a crucial factor in AEC. PrODuCT ENGINEErINGAEC’s Technical Department along with the r&D team are mainly concerned with the engineering of the product, a multidisciplinary project that includes optic, mechanical and electrical design.

THE OPTIC DESIGNA high professional team of engineers hardly work to improve the quality of AEC’s optical systems by means of high efficiency aluminium reflector and tempered glass screen.This extraordinary combination of materials, ensures high quality, high efficiency and easy cleaning products. The study of the optic allows to develop an efficient luminaire with the best performance. AEC adopts an high transparency, in order to optimize the efficiency of the luminaire, and are also able to ensure the maximum protection of the LED light source from shock and external agents. Any designed optic is created to properly address the light in relation to the application, avoiding any glaring effect. AEC uses high technical simulation software, the same tool adopted by automobile and aircraft industries. The software can predict the lighting performance of the luminaire in a high reliable way. Thanks to the team work between light designers, technical and r&D department no prototype needs to be produced.

THE MECHANICAL DESIGN

THE ELECTrONICDESIGN

The mechanical design procedure takes advantage of an advanced mathematical modelling system, using the latest 3D CAD software systems. The use of high precision CNC robotic machining allows the monitoring and optimization of every single phase of the process and provides excellent results. In LED products the heat dissipation is of dramatic importance. The r&D department uses sophisticated simulation software able to predict the thermal behavior of the heat sinks, directly designed by AEC mechanical designers. The advanced systems of thermal measurement and the accurate calculation of reliability, are in accordance to the latest methods of prediction and functional evaluation, allowing to optimize the project and to estimate the luminaire expected lifetime.

Electronic components play a key role in defining the reliability and overall performance of a lighting fixture. This is the reason why remote control electronic boards and power supply units must be carefully chosen and tested for electrical safety and performance, both in normal operation and under stress state.The study carried out by the r&D department has allowed to improve the power supplies, which guarantees the maximum protection to the internal in case of over temperature, overload, short circuit or LED circuits opening. AEC also carries out all the required tests about electrical safety in compliance with international standards in its laboratories. The luminaire lifetime depends on the reliability of its components. The evaluation of the electronic components reliability is carried out through the thermal analysis of components and through a mathematical calculation by means of a dedicated software.

AEC boasts both a test laboratory, where all the tests required by the standards in force are carried out and two photometric laboratories, where a staff of professionals performs certified photometric and radiometric measurements by providing the customer with all the information needed to qualitatively characterize the lighting project.AEC laboratories are supervised by a third party at uL International Italy Srl. uL, leader in the field of safety certification that attests the conformity of both laboratories with international standards through periodic inspections at the Company. The AEC safety test laboratory is also recognized by the American market.

EMCELECTrO-MAGNETIC COMPATIbILITY

The European certificate compliance of the luminaires, compulsory for CE Certification, requires the certifications for the electrical safety and the electromagnetic compatibility.Today the luminaires, due to their variety requested by the customers, need a continuous and accurate control in all their electronic components, especially on everything related to electromagnetic disturbances. AEC, in order to quickly meet the different requests, has installed in its own AEC LAb the new shielded chamber equipped with a sophisticated equipment for EMC test.The goal is to meet 100% the different requests of customers offering properly tested and certified luminaires. AEC makes a further step towards the TOTAL QuALITY SYSTEM.

Any manufacturing process that takes place in AEC facilities is highly automated. The machineries used allow the Company to face the everyday and more urgent needs of the market. LED technology has imposed strict processing time schedules and impeccable manufacturing.Each component is produced by programmed machineries from the laser cutting and welding, to the optics production and silicone fixing. Components and semi-finished products are then stored in two automated warehouses.The product assembly takes place in dedicated lines. The process is supported by the use of robots positioned in assembly areas. Before the packing phase, every product undertakes a final testing.AEC concentrates all the production phases in the Italian Headquarters following every step of the product development, from the designing to the production and distribution. DEKRADEKRA Testing and Certifications S.r.l is an independent certification of a thirdparty, which carries out testing and certification of products with a wide experience in different products and sectors. In compliance with the reference standards, AEC laboratories are supervised by a third party at DEKRA Testing and Certifications S.r.l. in order to guarantee high quality products for an efficient public lighting.

ULIn compliance with the reference standards, AEC laboratories are supervised by a third party at UL International Italy S.r.l. UL, leader in the field of safety certification, attests the conformity of both laboratories with international standards through periodic inspections at the Company.

ENECENEC is mainly used for electrical lamps and lighting equipment. AEC products are subjected to specific verifications carried out by a third party having the right to use its own laboratories and inspectors during the regular visits to the Company. The ENEC mark demonstrates that the device has been manufactured in line with the requirements of European Safety Standards.

AEC Molds is a manufacturing area totally dedicated to the manufacture of moulds, mechanical equipment and projects prototypes. A professional team work within this wide and technological area using advanced 3d CAD systems (for moulds and mould filling simulation software and moulding process). AEC uses the most modern and technological machines: machines tools at 5 and 3 axles, electrical discharge machining and grinding.AEC knowledge together with the simulation tools on the moulding process, allow the Company to identify the best design route from the beginning, generating luminaires with efficient and technological moulds. AEC MOLDS is a very impressive facility where die-casting aluminum, sheet metal stamping, plastic injection and step-slices are produced. They can reach 14 tons of size and can be mounted on a 2,500 tons die-casting machine. Of course, a well designed and manufactured mould gives rise to a high quality product, guaranteeing the characteristics over time.

AEC offers a wide range of products for street lighting able to be functional and uniform whilst guaranteeing energy efficiency, high performance and durability. AEC manufactures versatile luminaires for narrow or large street with dry or wet asphalt, roundabouts, junctions and highways.
