WE ARE A ONE-STOP RESOURCE for

Aboriginal entrepreneurs and communities

operating or starting a tourism business. We

offer training, information resources, networking

opportunities and cooperative marketing programs.

OUR VISION is a prosperous and respectful

Aboriginal cultural tourism industry sharing

authentic products that exceed visitor expectations.

THE AtBC MISSION is to provide training,

awareness, product development and marketing to

support a sustainable authentic Aboriginal cultural

tourism industry while contributing to cultural

preservation and economic development.

The Aboriginal tourism industry contributes $42

million to the provincial economy annually with an

expected increase to $68 million by 2017.

WE ARE ESTABLISHED, EXPERIENCED AND EVOLVING.

From humble beginnings, AtBC has grown to

represent more than 150 stakeholder businesses

located in the six tourism regions of BC.

Tourism is an industry sector of high importance

within BC First Nations’ economic development

initiatives. Our industry development and marketing

programs reach every single First Nation in BC.

Our continuous outreach activities create long-

term and solid relationships with decision-makers,

entrepreneurs and communities alike.

We provide proven and progressive leader-

ship in Aboriginal tourism and economic

development.

We are governed by Aboriginal cultural tourism

business leaders working in BC who dedicate their

time to ensure AtBC meets the needs of the industry

it represents.

We have become a world

leader in the development of

authentic Aboriginal cultural

tourism.

Together, AtBC, our Stakeholders,

and Aboriginal communities

throughout British Columbia have

demonstrated a collective ability

to work together and produce

significant growth in tourism

since 2006.

The growth of the Aboriginal

cultural tourism sector has

been unprecedented.

AtBC understands that consumer demand for existing

authentic Aboriginal cultural tourism destinations

and potential for new Aboriginal cultural tourism

products point to a promising future.

THE NEXT PHASE: 2012-2017

AtBC has developed a five-year strategy for Aborig-

inal cultural tourism in BC.

The Next Phase outlines AtBC’s strategy for growing

the province’s Aboriginal cultural tourism industry.

It builds on AtBC’s experience in successfully

implementing the Aboriginal Cultural Tourism

Blueprint Strategy and is timed to take advantage of

the current trend towards increased visitor demand

for authentic experiences.

AtBC will invest $10 million over five years into

coordinated capacity building, product develop-

ment and marketing initiatives. Through this

investment, AtBC will increase visitor volume,

employment and revenues including tax revenue.

The Next Phase is supported by both levels of

government and embedded in “Gaining the Edge”,

BC’s five-year provincial tourism strategy.

Targets:

• Revenues of $68 million (10% growth per year)

• Employment of 4000 full-time equivalent

positions (10% growth per year)

• 100 market-ready Aboriginal cultural tourism

products (10% growth per year in every region)

Key Strategies:

• push for market-readiness

• build and strengthen partnerships

• focus on online marketing

• focus on key and emerging markets

• focus on authenticity and quality assurance

• regional approaches

Our Corporate Partnership Program provides

you with the opportunity to be a visible

partner in our push forward and success.

Our networking events and marketing initiatives

provide opportunities to engage with leaders

representing communities, Aboriginal business,

governments and industry. We provide extremely

high visibility for firms interested in working with

Aboriginal governments and businesses.

At AtBC events you can network, exchange ideas

and create opportunities for business.

1. KLAHOWYA VILLAGE 2012 - AN INTERACTIVE, ENGAGING AND

SENSORY EXPERIENCE FOR ALL AGES AND DEMOGRAPHICS

The Klahowya Village experience in Stanley Park

is a strategy to support the Aboriginal cultural

tourism industry through the gateway destination

Vancouver. The Village creates a cohesive, branded

and viable visitor experience, merging traditional

artisan village elements with contemporary

Aboriginal experiences, authentic art, culture and

traditions. In 2011 Klahowya Village operated from

May 16 through September 5 and welcomed 55,000

visitors, exceeding expectations.

2012 will be the Village’s third year, continuing the

legacy of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. AtBC will

reclaim what used to be the Stanley Park Farmyard

to add a permanent facility and attraction. The long-

term plan includes a traditional Coast Salish Long-

house to further establish Klahowya Village as a

recognized tourist destination and central introduc-

tion to BC’s Aboriginal cultural tourism products.

2. THE “EXPLORE ABORIGINAL BC!” DAY TRIP

In 2011 our corporate partners gathered at the Bill

Reid Gallery in downtown Vancouver and enjoyed

a lunch catered by Salmon and Bannock followed

by an interpretive canoe tour hosted by the Tsleil-

Waututh Nation’s Takaya Tours.

The 2012 trip will again introduce our partners to a

number of AtBC stakeholders.

CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP COSTS AND BENEFITS

We understand that corporate investment in

AtBC needs to translate into a tangible return on

investment. Some of our partners get involved

to visibly support of Aboriginal economic

development. Others develop projects with us to

support their corporate goals.

When AtBC’s goals and our corporate partners’

goals align, we can develop strong approaches

benefitting all involved. This can be a short-term

project such as FortisBC’s Community Giving Day

at Klahowya Village or a long-term strategy such

as joint marketing and packaging initiatives with

Coast Hotels and Resorts.

We are excited about the possibility of

forming more partnerships, creating

innovative projects and supporting your

goals while you assist us.
