Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome Back to Term 4

Teachers and students at Corryong College have started the term running; with Hume Athletics Carnival, Healthy Harold, VCE

Indonesian Oral Examination and the Year 7 Immunisation program all happening this week.

The next few weeks look just as busy with students studying Units 3 and 4 finishing off courses and preparing for the exam peri-

od. The last day for Year 12s is on Wednesday 19th October. There is also the CFA ADVANCE awards afternoon, transition

days. information evenings, work experience, Presentation Evening and the Curriculum Day on the 31st October.

SunSmart Term 4

Parents and students are reminded that our College is a SunSmart school. Each year in Terms 1 and 4 our SunSmart policy re-

quires students to wear a broad-brimmed hat whenever they are out in the sun including sport or PE classes, and including recess

and lunch breaks. Parents are asked to assist us by ensuring students attend school during Term 4 with an appropriate broad-

brimmed hat.

Regular Summer Uniform

The days are getting longer with the odd warm days of sunshine. Our students have responded by offloading their winter attire

and replacing it with our summer uniform.

In most cases students and families have organised the appropriate attire for the change of seasons but in some cases students

have taken upon it themselves to ignore the uniform guidelines that are outlined in their School Planner. Currently the Uniform

policy states; Tailored plain navy or grey shorts (short casual shorts or football shorts are not permitted).

Some students are wearing shorts that are briefer than mid-thigh and this was unanimously supported at the leadership team

meeting late last term as being inappropriate school attire. Further discussion regarding the wording of the policy is to take place

at the next School Council meeting scheduled for November.

I would like to take this opportunity to also remind parents that if their child is unable to attend school in full school uniform that

they should supply a note for their child to show to their form teacher first thing in the morning.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Child Safety and Visitors to the College

The College seeks to provide an open and friendly learning environment which values and actively encourages visitors to our

school. At the same time we recognize our duty of care to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff, and we recognize

our responsibility to protect and preserve our resources against theft, vandalism or misuse.

All visitors have a role to play in supporting a culture of child safety at our school. Parents cannot go directly to the classroom to

collect their children but are required to report to the administration office prior to undertaking any activity within the school.

Other than in the case of short inquiries or business in the administration offices, visitors will be required to sign a “Visitors’

book. At the end of their visit they will be requested to ‘sign out’ in the ‘Visitors book’.

The College understands that it is tempting at times for some parents to just pop in and deliver a lunch or a sport uniform or

whatever without reporting to the office first but we must insist that all parents follow the College’s process at all times.

School Levies and Charges

Term 4 has just begun., hence it is important that outstanding school levies and charges are settled as soon as possible.

School levies and charges for students undertaking programs at the College including instrumental music were distributed to

families via the post towards the end of Term 1. Payment of school levies and charges is a significant component of meeting a

child’s education. We ask parents to make arrangements, as soon as possible, for payment at the College Office. College Coun-

cil sets fees and charges in order to provide the quality of facilities and programs enjoyed by our students. Parents’ cooperation

is appreciated.

Thank you to all those parents that have already made payments. If you would like to make progressive payments, please contact

the College Office to make arrangements.

North East Bushrangers—Jess McLean

Jess McLean has over the past few months been playing representative football with the U/18’s North East Bushrangers

football team. Jess competed in the VLine Cup last week where she came up against representative teams from across the

state—the Bushrangers were undefeated in their 2 matches. They will now take on the Goulburn Murray Bushrangers on

the 23rd of October, where Jess will be hoping to earn a place in the Bushrangers Academy Squad. If she is successful, she

will then hope to compete in the TAC Cup Carnival in March next year, vying for a spot in the Vic Country Squad to com-

pete at the National Championships. It’s an exciting time for girl’s football in the north east and Jess is leading the way for

girls in Corryong—well done and good luck!

amazing results! Corryong College

achieved 16 credit certificates which

places these students in the top 36 %

for their age in Australia.

The following students achieved a

distinction certificate which places

them in the top 11% for their age in

Australia: Tyler Crane,

Zac Whitsed, Lachy Martin,

Melhuish and Tom Ross.

A special mention to Tom who

placed in the top 2 % of students

for his age in Australia.

One of our Year 3 Students,

Hayley Whitsed achieved a high

distinction, which places her in the

top 1% for students her age in Aus-

tralia.

A fantastic achievement.

Well done to all students that

represented Corryong College, these

results are amazing!

Congratulations to the Chicken Club won the secondary school division of

the RSA School Egg Laying Competition at the Melbourne Show. Students

from Years 5 to 10 formed two teams to raise chickens last term. The chick-

ens arrived when they were 9 weeks old. As they grew we recorded their

mass, how much they ate, checked them for disease and made sure they

lived in a clean and safe environment. At the Melbourne show, the chickens

were judged on their health and condition, the quality of the eggs and the

poster explaining the information we had collected. The students’ excellent

efforts were rewarded with:

Blue Team: Equal Third for poster, Third for quality of chicken eggs, 1ST

Overall in the secondary schools competition

Yellow Team: Equal Third for poster. The results haven’t come out yet, but this team was in the top 5 for the

secondary school section. We competed against 22 other schools. Congratulations to all involved.

We will also need people to assist on the day with manning the gate, serving beverages etc...(Any assistance would be greatly appreciated)

If you have any items could you please drop off at the school offices or at Melissa Humphrey’s salon (rear of 68 Towong Road).

Would you consider donating some of your time to volunteer in the Op Shop? We still need helpers and people willing to join the committee of man-agement. If you can help out please contact Sally 60760529.
