Dear Parents/Guardians,

ANZAC Day

Through the bouts of rain it was heart warming to see our College students partaking in the ANZAC Day service. These included

our student leaders who laid wreaths, poetry readers, the band who performed and CFA students who all marched. Thank you to

our staff who supported our student representatives.

Athletics Carnival moved to Wednesday 3rd May

Due to our recent wet weather we have had to postpone the Athletics Carnival to Wednesday 3rd May. This will run as usual and

we look forward to seeing our College Community dressed in their house colours. I look forward to our carnivals and thoroughly

enjoy the team spirit that is demonstrated as well as the ‘give it a go’ attitude ALL our students display.

Back in the Art Room with Juniors

This week I had the great opportunity to get back into the classroom to take our gorgeous F/1’s for Art. What a delight it was and

what a hoot! The brilliance of teaching a creative medium is the opportunity to alleviate the fear of failing in our students per-

ceptions of their own abilities. Too often kids worry about not being able to achieve success, causing the attitude “I can’t” or “I

won’t”. The joy I have in teaching art is the opportunity to alleviate this angst with expressive and intuitive painting styles that

commence with joint works and lead to independent self-expression through art mediums. Our F/1s painted lines and marks of

beautiful colour and even told me which markings depicted which emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the kids for the double

and their smiles definitely evidenced their joy. Mums and Dads, I have to share also, what a great lot of cleaners they were! The

whole class assisted in a thorough clean up of spilt paint on tables, dirty paintbrushes and coloured-filled paint pallets! The art

room was spotless thanks to our little cleaners! Very impressed!

My Dad Is AWESOME - helping our Dad’s to navigate fatherhood in today’s society.

I have previously mentioned the role of mums in their children’s lives. However, just recently a great opportunity has been de-

veloped by our Corryong Neighbourhood Centre, Upper Murray Family Care, Towong Shire and the State Government specifi-

cally for our Dads! The program runs over four sessions and gives the opportunity for Dad’s to have their say and learn new

ways of understanding, dealing and coping with the demands of fatherhood.

As stated “Fatherhood is a job for life and this project will help men learn the skills and tactics they need to be the best dad’s

possible”. My Dad is Awesome is focused on upskilling fathers while offering them helpful insight into the work of Maternal and

Child Health nurses—who are there to help in crisis.

Dad’s also have an opportunity to win an Awesome Dad’s Bundle prize pack worth $500 from BCF!!! Yep, a lucky Dad can

stock up anything boating, camping and fishing! Everything you need to be a Dad that spends time with their kids in the great

outdoors. Give it a go! Surveys can be found by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BQQMQC5 or the Council’s website

www.towong.vic.gov.au Hard copies are also available from Corryong’s Upper Murray Health and Community Services, Cor-

ryong Neighbourhood Centre or the Council offices in Hanson Street, Corryong.

When: 9 May, 23 May, 6 June, 20 June (Tuesday nights)

Where: Corryong Neighbourhood Centre

SEMESTER 1 2017—VCE SAC DATES

Professor Bunsen to visit Corryong. On Friday the 12th of May students from Years F to 12 will have the oppor-tunity to attend the amazing Professor Bunsen’s Science Show. This will take place in the Hub with students from Year 5 to 8 attending the morning ses-sions, F to 4 in the mid-morning and 9 to 12 in the afternoon. The cost of the excursion is only $6 per student and needs to be paid to the Office by Friday the 12th. This interactive presentation focuses on a number of interesting & fun colour and gas producing reactions from the kitchen, laundry, toy shop and bathroom. We will discover the difference between physical & chemical changes and reversible & irreversible changes. Students see & help with instant colour changes, discover the "chemical power" of laundry materials when an explosive balloon is produced, find out how heat packs work and get into nappy science. We will also have some "controlled explosions" and fast burn-ing reactions and many more. Hey, this is exciting stuff!

Dear Parents

Corryong College Parent’s Club are inviting you to take out a family membership for only $5.

Along with your assistance, the memberships will enable us to continue our important contribution to our school environment. Up-coming projects include purchase of mats for the junior campus, build shade shelters, subsidise excursions, beautifying the gardens and working bees.

One of our biggest fundraisers is our local OP Shop, we receive substantial funds annually and need each family to consider donating good quality items, partaking in the roster or cutting up rags.

Parents Club normally meet twice a term, please feel free to come along and express your views. (Refer to KIT for our meeting dates.) We also organise weekly pie days to ensure the students are able to have a hot meal in winter.

Finally, thank you for your assistance. We all want the very best education and surrounds for our children. Together we can make our school an excellent school.

Yours truly

Melissa Humphrey Petrina Hewatt Megan Spurgeon
