Mayors message for June 2017 June has been a hectic month for Council with a wide range of projects under- way and of course the end of the financial year. Works down at the industrial estate will soon be ending as the last of the culverts and storm water pipes are installed and the road graded. Council would like to acknowledge the $500,000 grant from the State Government through the Building Our Regionsfund that helped make this project possible. The widening of the Croydon Road just after the Bottom Crossing has been completed with works for the next stage of wid- ening to commence later this month. Council will continue from where the last works finished for a further 7km and another 3km section around the Hazel- wood Channels. Over the next three months, there will be a storm water re- placement program with kerb-to-kerb sealing works in town. Once these areas have been identified, there will be a notification in this newsletter to let the Com- munity which roads will be affected. Several other projects of note are happening over the next couple of months. The kids pool at the swimming pool will be removed and a new one in- stalled. The walking path around the lake is being removed and a new 2m wide path is being installed. There will be a new pit dug at the Richmond Refuse Tip as the current pit is nearing full capacity. The old works administration building will be transformed in the new li- brary and museum/art gallery with public meeting rooms. The old tennis clubhouse and toilets will be replaced by modern facilities. Several of the above projects will be funded under the State Government s Works for Queenslandwhich Council received $1 million to fund projects with- in the community. Council recently held a budget meeting to discuss future projects, rates and charges and water metering. Concerning the water metering, Council has decid- ed to delay introducing a yearly water allowance. Over the next twelve months Council will gather more water readings, service existing meters to ensure peak performance and send out quarterly water readings to rate payers so they can see how much water they are using. Council will use these readings to help work out an allowance for the 2018-19 financial year. Council would like to re- mind everyone that water restrictions are still in place during the day from 9am to 3pm. Council will finalise its budget at the next Council Meeting and can then be viewed via the Councils website. Lastly, Council will be conducting an auction in August that will be split into two locations with items from the works department to be auctioned at the main de- pot and items from the old administration buildings to be auctioned in the hall. A flyer will be sent out with a list of items for sale towards the end of the month. ILLEGAL DUMPING There will no longer be dumping allowed at Maxwelton. This also applies for the Town Common around the township of Richmond itself. If anyone proceeds to do so, fines will apply. SOIL / SAND Council has a stockpile of sand /soil that the public can access – free of charge at the back of Simpson Street adjacent the Lib-erty Fuel Depot. Sand & soil from this location may only be collected by hand at request – no machines to collect. GARBAGE COLLECTION POLICY Council has resolved to twice a week rubbish collections on Monday and Thursday permanently. Please put bins on the road with lid opening facing the road. Disposing of tree limbs and other garden trimmings on the footpath by the side of the road for council to collect is not allowed. Garden trimmings and tree branches must be taken to the dump by those disposing of them, council will only collect such bulk items if a private works order is requested first. SEWERAGE SYSTEM Once again Council asks that foreign objects are not flushed into the sewerage system. This occurring problem is causing ma-jor damage and outages that could easily be avoided. BARKING COLLARS Please be advised you can hire Barking Collars at the Richmond Shire Council for $5 per week—with a refundable Bond of $50. POOL The pool is closing for the winter season on June 16, 2017 for 8 weeks and will be opening again in mid to late August. RICHMOND SHIRE COUNCIL TERTIARY BURSARY Students in the Richmond Shire who are thinking about pursuing tertiary studies to obtain a degree, but need some financial assistance to realise their goal, please consider applying for the Shire’s Tertiary Bursary. For further information or an appli-cation form and policy outlining the conditions please contact the office on 07 47 413 277. DOG SCALPS Scalps will only be accepted by Council at the end of each calendar month AND by prior appointment with either Arthur Fer-guson 0429 680 229 or Warren Hussey 0439 916 716.
