and for some impediment in their current business. Thereare couples of minutes between expert speaker and usand soon Bible of knowledge will be before us.

Mr. D K Goswamy Program Coordinator introducedSpeaker and Subject:

“We are habitual tax evaders. Tax is a negative word. Itis just like paying a fine forcefully for a sin you have notcommitted. Our employer would tell us how the breakupof the salary would ensure that you land up paying less

tax. Even the tax exemption schemes under varioussections are promoted by Government which show usthe way ‘to save’ or ‘not pay’ tax. The big message is toavoid paying taxes. Rightly so. During 1973-74, thehighest income tax slab was for 97.75%. You earn andpay everything to the government as income tax. Payingtax is a punishment? Only fools pay tax!

So, how should you contribute to get the services likeroads, gardens and security etc? Is there any positiveword for tax. Donation seems a positive word. Youdonate to temples or to help poor willingly but find waysto avoid contributing for your own welfare throughGovernment?

You are in a joint family. Every earning member wouldcontribute for running the house, marriage or any otherfunctions. The head of the family would decide whowould pay how much. It is a tricky job but the simplerule has been to ask everyone to pay as per theindividual’s paying capacity. The head of family wouldensure that this contribution is not seen as a burden.

When we look at this as a bigger picture, we becomeindividuals and the feeling of a larger family is gone. TheGovernment needs money to make roads as well as towaive off farmer’s loan. The money would be extractedfrom your pocket only. The trick is to take out the moneyfrom your pocket but without your realising. This simplebut diplomatic act become complex when it is called GST.To make this complex subject simple, we have with usMs. Minal Mehta Buch. She would talk to us about GSTin the context of ‘Supply chain Management’.

Ms. Minal Mehta Buch is a practicing CharteredAccountant. She scored highest marks in Indirect taxeson all India basis in CA Final Examination.

She did a certificate courses on International Marketingand Foreign Trade Policy and was awarded ‘Rising Star’at KPMG.

She also got First prize for ‘The Best participatingstudent’ at General Management and CommunicationSkills programme at ICAI (Ahmedabad).

She is working as Advisor to KPMG for Indirect taxes. She has worked with Deloitte Indirect taxes and ICICIBank Limited at their Corporate office.

She undertook the GST impact analysis and assistancein transition to MSME as well as big corporate.

She is mentoring start-ups and advising for tax andfinance perspective.

She advises exporters in respect of various incentivesunder Foreign Trade Policy and Indirect taxes.

Ms. Buch handles all Indirect tax assignments andappears before various tax authorities.

She is taking regular seminars and workshops on suchsubjects.

She is Global Shaper at Global Shapers Community – aninitiative of World Economic Forum. “

Materials Management Review 47May 2017

Ms Minal Mehta’s talk was very informative and to thepoint. She said that structure of the supply chain ininfluenced by differential taxes based on geographicallocation. By eliminating multiple state taxes, the logisticscompanies are encouraged consolidate their warehousesinstead of maintaining one in each state to avoid centraltax. Audience was spell bound by clarity of her inputsand the lively question answer handled by her.

Mr. Manoj Pandey NC Member presented a mementoon behalf of participants to knowledgeable speaker ofthe evening.

Mr. Rakesh Gupta, Hon. Secretary in his wrapping upremarks said: We are thankful to Mr. Sudhir Shah as wellas Mr. Pankaj Panchbhai for updating us on membershipand educational activities of our Branch. Our thanks arealso due to our Immediate Past Chairman Shri D. K.Goswamy for introducing today’s speaker Ms. MinalMehta Buch and subject. Mrs. Minal has a blend of both– an illustrious academic career followed with corepractice in indirect taxes for a variety of industries.

I felt her task would be a difficult one with the inputscirculated on GST by Mr. D K Goswami to members. But,we could feel the flavour and depth of knowledge whilelistening to Ms. Minal on the topic of the day “GST –Impact on Supply Chain Management”.

There is lot of uncertainty among the manufacturers, service providers. Further there is apprehension withsome industries who are presently exempt from tax.Friends to deal with this hot topic needs one needs anextra ordinary skill; which we were lucky to have in Ms.Minal. She has done justice to the topic of the day and Iam sure we are going back with some useful take-aways.”Members dispersed with fond hope of meeting soon foranother interesting presentation.--------------------------------------------------------------------------
