Introduction

Craigslist.org is a website that is based around online

communities. The main feature is that is allows users to

post free online classified ads. Users can post in many

categories including jobs, housing, personals, for sale,

services and resumes.

Craigslist does also accept paid ads for job lisings and

for apartment listings in New York City.

The service that gave birth in 1995 to Craigslist, was an

email distribution list of friends that featured local

events in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1996 the service

became web-based. According to Alexa, on June 28,

2010 Craigslist was ranked no.7 among websites in the

United States with over 49.4 million unique users.

Now getting to what you will learn in this book.

What’s that you say? Craigslist doesn’t accept videos.

You are correct however in this book you will learn how

to setup an ad so that you would think a video ad is

indeed in Craigslist. You combine a Craigslist ad with a

graphical ad and a Youtube video to create an appealing

ad.

To use this Craigslist video method it assumes you

already have a promotional video that is hosted on

Youtube.

Step 1 – Get a Screen Capture of Video

Go to your Youtube video and get a screen capture of

the video. This is like a freeze frame still of the video.

If you don’t have snagit or hypersnap you can just use

the print screen button on your keyboard and then use

Paint which is an accessory in Windows.

In paint you would just select the video and then save it

as a file for se in Step 2.

Step 2 – Create your Graphical Ad

Create an ad that will be listed in Craigslist. It is not just

a plain old text ad. What you need to do is create a

colourful display ad.

You can look in the Yellow Pages for inspiration. To

create the ad I recommend The Logo Creator which is

time of writing it costs $29.95. The Web 2.0 version is

what I use.

The software makes the creation of graphical ads a

breeze. There are templates that you can use to quickly

create the ads. The creator of the software also

provides tutorials to get started.
