Mrs. Peel, We're Needed....

Do you remember the TV show The Avengers & that wonderful intro line "Mrs. Peel, we'reneeded?"

In the same vein, CSRG needs you, the members, to enter the Season Finale. This is our end-of-the-year blow-out. It's a wonderful race weekend, but just as importantly it is our awards dinner &celebration. This is a chance for members to be recognized for their efforts & recognized forhelping the club. The fact that it's also Halloween lends a certain bizarreness to the proceedingsas well.

We have a great entry list for the Winkelmann-Titan Reunion, but we need more cars to do justiceto the event. Please try to summon the energy one more time & I promise not to bother youagain...until 2016.

Need a reason to participate? How about:

1) Simply to support the club. This is YOUR race. Use it or lose it as I always say.2) To extend the fun a little longer. Do it while you can.3) The Saturday night dinner & awards ceremony. This is a wonderful event, well run &, mostimportantly, an early evening. Awards for our guest groups, the McKee & CSRG awards are given.4) To bask in the camaraderie that is part & parcel of our events. Unlike the Sonoma races theseare low key affairs that provide a ton of track time & great opportunity to engage others.5) The Titan & Winkelmann Reunion---presently we have @30 cars committed to run.6 Bob Winkelmann & ex-Winkelmann employees like engine builder Paul Hasselgren will be therealong with representatives of Titan like Tom Gloy, Pierre Philips & others. Engine builder Mike Iveywill be there as well.7) The Saturday night dinner. Free food & lots of banter & heckling. What could be more fun?8) It's Halloween, so wear something that will really make others worry bout you....!!!!!

The Season Finale will include a Titan & Palliser-Winkelmann Reunion at the Thunderhill 3 Mile course, including an exclusively Titan-Winkelmann race on Saturday! Your entry includes the wonderfulSaturday night dinner. Whatever car you have, enter here: Season Finale

2015 Charity Challenge

It was an incredible weekend. The Junior race was fantastic, as were virtually all of the others--RaceGroups 1 & 4 were so tight that the winning margin was 0.109 & 0.80, respectively. Hats off to Hugo &Johnson (Race Group 1) & Claridge & Davis (Race Group 4). We had some incidents which are beingreviewed, but for now let's join the top three from the Junior race---a race won by Art Hebert in his LolaMk. 5A over Dr. Nick Colyvas in a Cooper T56 & Chris Locke's Lotus 27.

Good Reads, Old & New

Dan Gurney's Eagle Racing Cars by John Zimmerman

Simply put, this is a must have book. Why? Because DanGurney was everybody's hero, competitive in any car & a sourceof fascination when he started building his Eagles--from thesuperb Eagle F1 cars, to the stock block creations he persistedin taking to Indy, to his IMSA GTP Toyotas. Gurney is the racer'sracer. A man with an unquenchable desire to be involved withrace cars & motorcycles. Longtime racing journalist & authorJohn Zimmerman has covered every Eagle built (& some nevercompleted) by Gurney, not in a dry antiseptic delivery, but in aninteresting & engaging way.

Archie & the Listers by Robert Edwards

Archie Scott Brown was born to drive Listers. Both man & car epitomized the BritishBulldog. Archie overcame obstacles, both physical & social, to be at, or near, the top ofsports car racing. He died tragically, but his story would have been all the more tragicif the powers that be had been successful in preventing him from racing. A reallysuperb book.
