    2010 Commonwealth Games Village

    The 2010 Commonwealth Games Village is the athletes' residence for the 2010 Commonwealth

    Games in New Delhi. The games village is located near Akshardham Temple in New Delhi on

    the banks of the River Yamuna. The village is spread over an area of 63.5 hectares.

    The Games Village is an expression of the hospitality being offered by Delhi 2010 to

    approximately 8,000 athletes and team officials from the 71 nations and territories of the

    Commonwealth. It is designed to merge traditional Indian hospitality with international standards

    of comfort and excellence, to provide a home away from home during the XIX Commonwealth

    Games 2010 Delhi.

    The Games Village will be open from 23 September to 18 October, 2010.

    The Games Village comprises the Residential Zone, the International Zone, the Training Area,

    the Main Dining, and the Operational Zone.

    The Residential ZoneIt has 14 blocks, 34 towers and 1,168 air-conditioned flats built by Emaar. It is divided into fourZones:

    y Warli (Red)y Gond (Blue)y Madhubani (Green)y Sanjhi (Purple)

    It also includes the CGA office spaces, the Polyclinic and the Casual Dining.

    After the games, Emaar has the rights to sell 66% of the "luxury" apartments, which will be sold

    for Rs 1.8-4.2 crore each

    The International Zone

    The International Zone includes retail shops, exhibition area, cultural demonstration area, cinema

    halls, TV lounge, games room, internet cafe, village bar, disco etc. The International Zone alsoincludes the Guest Pass Centre, the VIP Waiting Area, the Chefs de Mission Meeting Hall, the

    Mayors Office, and the Media Centre.

    Training Area

    There are training areas for Athletics, Aquatics,Weightlifting/Para-sport Powerlifting andWrestling. There is a eight-lane 400 m Synthetic athletics track and an Olympic-size swimming

    pool. It also has gymnasium and fitness centre, steam and sauna facilities, physiotherapy rooms.

    Dining

    The main dining service is opened 24 hours and provide free meal service. It has the capacity to

    accommodate 2,300 of the total residents .

    Operational Zone

    Operational Zone I is located adjacent to the Training Area, while Operational Zone II isadjacent to the Residential Zone.

    Transportation

    There are two free transport systems in the Games Village the Internal Village Shuttle and the

    Bus Service. Customised cart and golf carts will also be available for Internal movement.

    Security

    Several measures have been put into place to provide a safe and secure environment for all

    residents and guests at the Games Village. No one can enter the Village without valid

    accreditation.

    Security at the Games Village is provided by Delhi Police, with help from the National Security

    Guards (NSG) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Security coordination islooked after by the Venue Command and Control Centre of the Village.
