With thousands of original and creative worksfrom over 200 regional artists, we're certain
you'll find the most perfect gift in a fun,stress-free shopping environment!!
In keeping with a long tradition of allowing children to shop for their friends andfamily in a festive and safe atmosphere, the Honeoye School Bazaar Committeeinvites area children and their parents from Honeoye and other area towns to theannual Children’s Holiday Bazaar at the Honeoye Central School Cafeteria on Saturday, December 3, from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon.
Preschool and elementary school-aged children will get the chance to browse(escorted with elves, of course!) through thousands of new and very gently useddonated items. Even children love to be able to buy gifts for family and friends;each year hundreds of them do just that, with a Sweet Shoppe, Santa and Mrs.Claus to boot! After the children are shopped out, parents are allowed to do a littleshopping of their own!
There is also a range of beautiful goods and services from area businesses as wellas some individuals, available to the highest bidder at the Silent Auction. Itemsmay include art, certificates for oil changes, horseback riding lessons, and restau-rant meals, crafted tiles, pottery, and more. You have to see them to believe them!Several businesses have put together gift baskets. Great for the holidays! Items forthe Silent Auction are already on display and can be bid on during business hoursat the Honeoye Public Library, Main Street, Honeoye. The day of the bazaar theywill be put on display there.
Great gifts at great prices, but remember that when you bid and buy, you are alsosupporting very important community services—any profits benefit the libraryand the Honeoye Community Food Pantry. Library hours are Monday and Thurs-day, 2:30–8:30 p.m., Tuesday 10:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m.–1:00p.m. Please join us—parents with children from other schools, home schools, and nursery schools are all welcome. You may contact Cynthia Langkamp at [email protected] for more info if you wish.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEARFROM EVERYONE AT
The Olde Country Store and More—1849, located in the hamlet of North Cohoctonon the crossroads to Naples, Wayland, and Cohocton, is hosting its second annualGerman/American-style Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt). The first annualmarket was so successful that we have decided to expand by one weekend to thefirst two weekends in December: the 3rd and 4th, and 10th and 11th, from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. each day.
Mainz, Germany had been home to the Jeff Wells family (owners of the Olde Coun-try Store and More) for 35 years before they returned to Jeff’s hometown of Naplesin the spring of 2015. Jeff’s ancestral roots in Naples and North Cohocton go back toat least the 1800s when Jeff’s great grandfather, Tuisco Greiner, immigrated with hisbrothers to America from Bernburg, Germany. He descended from a long line ofGerman glass and porcelain makers/industrialists in Lauscha, Germany, who wereknown worldwide for their glass Christmas ornaments.
We are pleased and honored to have the chance to offer a wonderful assortment ofthese exquisite “Old World” glass gems from Germany year-round and especiallyfor our Christmas event.
During the two weekends, The Olde Country Store’s upstairs will be full of localhandcrafting vendors and taste testing stations. Santa will visit us with treats forthe kids, offering professional photo shoots on both Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
Downstairs, Jenny will be selling her original German Christmas cookies andserving original German wieners with German mustard and soft pretzels. Our“German Corner” showcases the wonderful selection of Christmas ornaments and glass figurines made in Lauscha, Germany, and shipped directly to our storein North Cohocton.
Special note: unfortunately the upstairs venue is not wheelchair accessible. ContactInfo: Jeffrey H. Wells, 2 University Ave., North Cohocton, NY 14808. Phone: (585)233-1922. Web: [email protected]. Like us on Facebook!

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carolsto be presented at Springwater UnitedMethodist Church on December 18On Sunday, December 18, at 5 p.m., The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols willbe presented in the United Methodist Church in Springwater, and the entire com-munity (and visitors) are cordially invited to attend.
The service, which is non-denominational, will trace the Coming of Christ in bothOld and New Testament readings, with traditional Christmas hymns and carolssung by the entire gathering of the people. The lessons, and the opening and clos-ing prayers, will be read by clergy and laypersons from the entire Springwatercommunity. Silent pageant displays (creche scenes, shepherds, wise men, etc.) byboth adults and children will accompany the readings.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, now celebrated during the Christmasseason in Christian churches of many denominations in countries all over theworld where Christianity exists, had its humble beginnings in the late 1800s in thehomes of “gentlemen of the choir” of what is now the Anglican cathedral of Truro,in England. The cathedral, then only a wooden shed (the present cathedral atTruro had yet to be built), had begun a choir of men and boys, and a social tradi-tion developed that on Christmas Eve: each year men of the choir gathered in oneof their homes earlier in the evening, before the Christmas Eve Mass, and sang fa-vorite Christmas carols and hymns. As that tradition grew, so grew the number offamily members and friends who joined in the carol-sings. That tradition was thenmoved to the cathedral itself (small as it was), and became a traditional prelude tothe midnight Christmas Mass.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, as it became known, has spread through-out the cathedrals and parish churches of England and beyond, both in the world-wide Anglican Communion, and in other denominations, with surprisingly littlebasic variation. The main theme of the nine lessons, from both the Old and NewTestaments, is “...the development of the loving purposes of God, seen throughthe windows and words of the Bible. The pattern and strength of the service de-rive from the lessons, and not the music.” (The Reverend Eric Milner-White, 1884-1963, WW-I soldier and, later, Dean of York Minster).
