25th ANNIVERSARY FETE What a wonderful day we all enjoyed on Saturday. The weather was perfect and we had a fabulous turnout for this much anticipated event. There was a great deal of work put into the preparation and planning of this special event and it was certainly pleasing to see everything go so well. Our fete coordinator, Jane McIntyre deserves great praise for her tireless efforts in ensuring that this day was so successful. Planning for the fete began more than six months ago culminating in Saturday. It was fantastic to see so many parents and community members assisting on the day by setting up shade, manning stalls, cooking and packing away. It was an enormous effort from everyone. I must also acknowledge all of the staff members of Dalmain who really embraced the day, putting a lot of additional time in preparing class stalls and then running them on the day. This greatly added to the feel and atmosphere. Our fete sponsors also contributed significantly towards the financial success of the event and their support is greatly appreciated. In the finish the fete raised almost $14000 which will go towards the construction of our school nature play area. Well done and thank you to everyone involved. JAPANESE ASSEMBLY It was an assembly with a difference this morning. Students from TA 6 hosted the assembly, much of it in Japanese, highlighting their knowledge of the language and engaging the audience in the process. Well done to TA 6 and Mr Archbold. Jon Laden-Wearne, our P&C President, addressed the assembly thanking everyone for their effort with the school fete. Jon also presented Jane McIntyre with a gift on behalf of the P&C to acknowledge Jane’s work with this event. The next assembly will be hosted by our Year One students from TA 1 on Thursday 21 May. NAPLAN Good luck to all students in Years 3 and 5 who will be participating in this national testing program commencing on Tuesday.

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 22 MAY 2015
Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking. Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
walking with them the whole way to school
walk past your usual bus/train stop and get on at the next stop
if you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 22 May 2015. For more information visit www.walk.com.au
