TRANSCRIPT
Dynamic and reactive RF planning and optimizationWith the ever-growing surge in mobile data traffic demand, and emerging usage patterns
experienced by Mobile Operators, there is an undeniable need for RF planning and optimization
tools to become more and more dynamic and reactive. Recent moves toward self-organizing
network (SON) solutions are testament to this trend.
While complete automation through SON will, by
itself, take time to establish, such trends clearly
call for current planning and optimization tools to
become connected to the network.
An accurate reflection of the real traffic patterns
and performance of the radio access network
(RAN) within planning and optimization solutions
will, in turn lead to better Radio Plans and shorter
optimization cycles. Ultimately, this will help
operators achieve OPEX savings and provide
them with the means to deliver the high quality of
experience (QoE) that customers expect.

PACKAGED INTEGRATION TO VENDOR OSS
As part of the VistaInsight® for Networks solution, Infovista provides mobile operators with packaged integrations to working with the leading RAN vendors. These adapters, or VistaLinks, connect to the vendors’ OSS platforms via their northbound interfaces, which are typically XML-based. These VistaLinks serve two purposes:
1. MEDIATION
They mediate vendor-specific counter sets to produce vendor-agnostic key performance indicators (KPIs), which get stored and analyzed with the VistaInsight for Planet® server.
2. PRE-AGGREGATION
The VistaLinks also pre-aggregate vendor-specific counter collection rates to produce standard hourly KPIs in the VistaInsight for Planet server.
If a mobile operator prefers to leverages KPIs already collected by a 3rd party system, Planet offers an easy-to-integrate comma separated value (CSV), or XML integration interface, called VistaBridge®.

ACCURATE, NEAR REAL-TIME PERFORMANCE
VistaInsight for Planet brings this vision of accurate,
near-real-time performance analytics into Infovista’s
Planet, which continues to be the industry’s leading RF
planning tool. Infovista’s VistaInsight framework brings
a legacy of proven network performance collection and
analysis capabilities that have been leveraged by more
than 300 service providers globally.
VistaInsight for Planet connects Planet to RF networks,
providing RF planning and optimization engineers with
much-needed visibility into the latest mobile traffic,
load and performance patterns in order to improve
network design and network optimization decisions.

DATA SHEET
VistaInsight for Planet broadly computes the following three categories of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) into
Planet’s Network Performance Inspector module:
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS FOR PLANET
QUALITY KPIS
Quality KPIs help RF engineers assess the end user quality in terms of call accessibility, retainability, call quality and mobility. Such KPIs, presented up to the latest hour, allow RF engineers to visually identify clusters of cells that require optimization and compare them to RF prediction plots. Providing a near-real-time view of the end user quality helps RF engineers set the right optimization objectives, and enables immediate feedback on the positive and negative impact of optimization actions.
1
TRAFFIC KPIS
Traffic KPIs help RF engineers better understand traffic patterns, both temporally and spatially. Leveraging up-to-date traffic statistics from the vendor OSS allows RF engineers to base their network plans on the latest mobile traffic trends, previously lacking in manual and spreadsheet-based approaches.
2LOAD KPIS
Load KPIs depict the load on traffic channels in the radio network. While this was traditionally a simulated metric within planning tools and used techniques like Monte Carlo, real load metrics from the OSS mean RF engineers can achieve a higher degree of accuracy in their network design and network optimization decisions.

SOPHISTICATED TEMPORAL ANALYTICS
RF planning and optimization processes aim to improve long-term network quality. As such, these processes call
for long-term historical analyses of network KPIs. VistaInsight for Planet provides a variety of sophisticated long-
term temporal analyses of traffic and load KPIs. This means that RF engineers can automatically summarize large
volumes of hourly calculations in a singular value for RF planning and optimization use.
Analytics over time Description
Simple Max., Min. and Average Simple max., min. and averages are provided for different time windows, including DAY, WEEK and MONTH, based on the hourly KPIs.
Percentile Calculations (Configurable) Percentile calculations (e.g. 95th percentile) of hourly values over long durations like weeks or months provide a strong basis to plan for high-traffic conditions.
Forecasts Forecasts help plan for future traffic conditions. 1-month, 2-month and 3-nonth forecasts are done using a rolling window of hourly data points.
VistaInsight for Planet provides a variety of sophisticated long-term temporal analyses of traffic and load KPIs. This means that RF engineers can automatically summarize large volumes of hourly calculations in a singular value for RF planning and optimization use.

Hours of Day analytics Description
Busy Hours In Busy Hour Analyses, the system automatically identifies the busy hour of each day based on a certain traffic KPI (e.g. download traffic in LTE) and uses the KPI values at those hours to complete the temporal analysis. This allows RF engineers to generate plans for the worst possible traffic conditions.
Hourly Baselines The user is able to choose a certain HOUR OF DAY, pulling the KPI values for the same hour for the past N days to produce different analytics over time, described above. This is particularly useful to plan for recurring daily conditions such as commute hour.
Hourly Baselines (Weekdays) Hourly baseline calculations are done for the past N week days.
Hourly Baselines (Weekends) Interactive and Background
Hour of Week Baseline The user is able to choose a certain HOUR OF WEEK, pulling the KPI values for the same hour of the week for the past N weeks to produce different analytics over time, described above. This is particularly useful for planning mobile traffic during events like stadium games, which are likely to happen every week.
