JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Youth Participation and Advocacy Worker (Ref: YP 01/20)
Location: Children’s Law Centre Rights House

Salary: NJC Point 16-18 (£23,369) plus 7% employer pension contribution on completion of a 6 month probationary period
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week).The post holder will be required to work evening and occasional weekends. The appointment is for an initial period of 3 years, with good prospects for renewal subject to availability of funding.
Holidays: 25 days per year plus statutory holidays
Reports to: Projects Manager – Digital, Training and Participation
Purpose of Post:
To develop co-ordinate and support the children’s rights participation and advocacy work of Children’s Law Centre’s youth advisory panel, youth@clc.
To raise awareness of children’s rights issues with young people.
To help promote young people’s engagement in CLC’s digital platforms for the provision of legal information and advice on children’s rights.
To facilitate youth@clc and other young people’s full participation in the development and promotion of REE Rights Responder and other digital information tools. www.reerights.com
To support CLC and youth@clc research on children’s rights issues and consultation work.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Youth Advocacy and Participation
Promote, recruit and maintain a diverse youth@clc membership base Develop youth@clc’s capacity and role as a youth advisory and advocacy
group within the Children's Law Centre to ensure they can inform the work of the Children's Law Centre on an ongoing basis
Support youth@clc to participate in relevant training and education opportunities to support their role as youth advocates for children’s rights
Facilitate regular youth@clc meetings, workshops and residentials as required and manage all youth@clc expenses
Support youth led youth participation and advocacy campaign work and joint working with other youth forum networks on children's rights issues
Enable and support direct engagement by young people with key decision makers on children’s rights issues, to ensure young people’s voices are heard and taken into account in the development of policy and legislation impacting on children’s lives
Support youth@clc’s engagement in children’s rights research, consultations and UNCRC reporting
Developing a Digital Information and Advice Service for Children and Young People
Support youth@clc and other youth focus groups to participate in the co design and development of REE Rights Responder (children’s rights chatbot) and a new youth accessible Child Law Hub for children and young people in NI (e.g. to include children’s rights FAQs, rights videos, quizzes and surveys)
Co-facilitate youth focus groups Support youth@clc’s participation in promoting awareness of REE amongst
young people using social media campaigns and in schools and youth groups Support the Communications and Marketing Officer to promote REE and
ensure maximum uptake by children and young people Design and deliver REE Showcase workshops in schools and targeted youth
groups to encourage use of REE by young people with unmet legal needs Contribute to the further development of content for REE and the Child Law

Communications
Monitor emerging children's rights priorities for young people to inform youth@clc project and campaign work
Promote awareness of youth@clc activities through CLC social media platforms
Work with Communications and Marketing Officer to increase CLC and youth@clc’s engagement with external social media campaigns on youth led children’s rights advocacy work
Sustainability
Support Projects Manager to identify and secure project funding for youth participation work
Assist the Projects Manager in the preparation of funding applications for youth participation projects when required
Training and Development
Participate in training opportunities as required to ensure ongoing personal and professional development.
Record Keeping
Maintain up to date records of all youth participation activity, youth@clc meetings, youth forum engagement events and meetings with decision makers to inform quarterly monitoring reports for funders and CLC
Maintain records of youth@clc expenses
OTHER DUTIES
Work in compliance with all CLC’s policies and practice with particular regard to child safeguarding, confidentiality, data privacy, non-discriminatory work practices and health and safety,
Any other reasonable duties relevant to the position, that may be required. Contribute to the overall development of the Children’s Law Centre Undertake such administrative duties as may be appropriate in the
performance of the main duties; Assist with the preparation of reports for funders and others as required;
RESPONSIBILITY FOR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS
The post currently has no line management responsibility.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITY
The post has no budgetary responsibility but will be required to assist the Projects Manager – Digital, Training and Participation in the financial management of the budget associated with this work stream.

VETTING
