decided to cut it off and leave the victims on raft on their own and hoping they would die so no one will know what they did to them. But the 15 raft victims out of 140 managed to survive and got rescued. They became witnesses in the court to tell what the French officers and crew did to them. Theo Garicault painted it to shock the public and the public pressurized French government to take action. They did. Same thing happened to Deaf victims abandoned by AG Bell frigate officers and crew to drift listlessly in the sea of despair. The Mother of all Deaf Soul came to the rescue. She lit up the candle of hope with Deaf Eyehand flame to guide them to Martha's Vineyard. This is what happening to hundreds of lost Deaf adults who just discovered Deaf community who welcome them in and accept them as their own on daily basis.

Bethaney Hall "De'VIA Flame" 8.5 by 11 drawing paper, watercolor Description: This painting pinpoints when I first discovered De'VIA Art- particularly Ann Silver's work w/ the recycle sign: w/ deaf, hard of hearing and hearing written on the arrows. I instantly connected w/ it as that's how I feel especially around hearing people or even some deaf who act like or label me hard of hearing due to my clear speech and the fact that I wear an hearing aid. These two things does not define me. I'm Deaf. Period. I may revisit this w/ acrylic paint.
