David Call The Raft of the AG Bell Graphite Description: This artwork was inspired by Gericault's The Raft of the Medusa. It was based on true story of French frigate that sank off the coast of Africa. French officers and crew got on lifeboat and forced poor passengers of color get on their makeshift raft. French officers and crew in their lifeboat towed the raft for a while then

decided to cut it off and leave the victims on raft on their own and hoping they would die so no one will know what they did to them. But the 15 raft victims out of 140 managed to survive and got rescued. They became witnesses in the court to tell what the French officers and crew did to them. Theo Garicault painted it to shock the public and the public pressurized French government to take action. They did. Same thing happened to Deaf victims abandoned by AG Bell frigate officers and crew to drift listlessly in the sea of despair. The Mother of all Deaf Soul came to the rescue. She lit up the candle of hope with Deaf Eyehand flame to guide them to Martha's Vineyard. This is what happening to hundreds of lost Deaf adults who just discovered Deaf community who welcome them in and accept them as their own on daily basis.
