Company Presentation

dBLab is an Iberian based company, with several offices across Portugal and Spain, and is part of Absorsor group, specialized in acoustics, noise and vibration control. It provides services for Noise Mapping by computer modelling of industrial sites, power plants, transportation infrastructures and urban areas, according to European Noise Directive, as well as Action Plans, Noise Control Projects and Environmental Impact Studies. It includes also a division specialized in Building and Room Acoustics, which can measure and compute acoustical properties of buildings and rooms, and advise architects and construction companies to produce top acoustic quality buildings for any type of application. Measurement and testing is made through its N&V Laboratory, which is ISO17025 accredited for a large number of acoustics and vibrations types of measurements according to relevant international standards

Noise Mapping and Acoustic Impact Assessment and Reduction

In this domain the dBLab team started its activity with Noise Mapping and reduction projects for existing large industrial installations and power stations, of high acoustic complexity. This enabled the team to develop a profound knowledge and experience in acoustic modelling of the acoustic processes involved in the emission, propagation and reception of noise from hundreds of different types of sources. In this context dBLab developed his own consistent methodology, based on measurement and calculation standards, leading to accurate technical procedures, including source and model validation by means of measurements. Initially we used the software Mithra and, later the CadnaA software, resulting from the partnership with the German companies Datakustik/Accon.

Later these methodologies were extended and adapted to transportation sources, such as roads and railways, initiating its activity in Noise Mapping of urban areas and entire municipalities and regions in Portugal, following the implementation of the Portuguese Noise Law of 2000: one of the most exigent in Europe in terms of Noise Mapping, at the time, as it enforced Noise Mapping of the entire territory. In fact, almost half of the territory has been Noise Mapped directly by dBLab, which gained a large experience and capacity in these type of applications.

After the transposition of the Environmental Noise Directive (END) into the Portuguese and Spanish legislation, dBLab became involved in strategic Noise Maps and action plans both in Portugal and Spain, in this case in cooperation with local consulting companies.
