The 2011-2012 sororal year started with a new slate of officers. Our Nominating and Elections committees led by Sorors Mary Parker and Stefanie Grant respectively were hard at work to ensure that we were ready to start the new sororal year. We are committed to continuing the services started since our chartering in 2007, almost five years ago. We have grown from a chapter of 78 sorors to one of almost 200 sorors who are progressive, college educated and committed women, who stand as beacons of light providing public service support to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens of Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding counties.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT’S DESK

Our Membership Services Committee led by our 1st Vice President, Soror Tekmekia Gilchrist and our Hospitality Committee led by Sorors Deborah Davis and Erma Freemont are working diligently to ensure that our 180 plus sorors feel right at home. Our new sorors have been assigned buddies and we have New Member Orientation quarterly. Our National Theme: Reclaim, Retrain, Retain is fully implemented here at DCP. Sorors, we have much to be thankful for in our very short history but we all know there is still much to accomplish. Here's to a great year because we all know that DCP is the Place to Be! Gean L. CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

In the midst of it all Every time a new challenge shows up, just pause and

remember the last time God showed up.

Every time you have to wait on the power of God to bless you, remember God is listening to our praise and to our prayers.

Remember God knows the motives of our hearts and still blesses us. Remember God has not forgotten you and will

never forsake you. Remember God and your history. You have no story without God. You have no future without God.

In the midst of it all, whatever your "it" may be - remember

God is in it with you.

DCP CHAPTER RETREAT IN AUGUST 2011

To ensure that the information gathered from our Regional Conference was disseminated to the chapter members, we held our Chapter Retreat in August, 2011 at Dolce in Peachtree City. There were almost 100 sorors in attendance, the largest group we have had at a retreat. The presenters were creative, energetic, and eager to share the information to the chapter members. One of the highlights of the Retreat was learning our DCP Song written by our Step Team/Music Committee Co-Chairs, Sorors Cynthia Crawford and Cha’Ke’Sha Spencer and the learning of our new and improved DCP Stroll. “Girls Rule the World!”

DOUGLASVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE DCP participated in the Douglasville Christmas Parade on Friday, December 2, 2011! While it was a little nippy, the ladies of DCP strutted our stuff through the streets of Douglasville! The City of Douglasville was honored to have the Ladies of DCP be a part of the parade. DCP showed up with a great turnout of members (thank you sorors), the 2011 Jabberwock Queens, Delta GEMS, and friends. Sorors threw candy to the crowds down Broad Street and made it safely back to Douglas County High School full of the Holiday spirit.

FIVE POINT PROGRAMMATIC THRUST

Economic Development is on point led by Soror Aisha Meeks with the Job Readiness Seminars and the Gift That Keeps on Giving Project. Her committee has teamed with Delta G.E.M.S. with some of their activities. Continue to watch the calendar for more activities.

Our Program Planning Committee, led by our 2nd Vice President, Soror Joi Freemont, ensures that we are in line with our National Theme; “Delta Sigma Theta – A Sisterhood Called to Service: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities”. She is constantly in communication with the Co-Chairs of our 5 Point Thrust Committees.

Our Educational Development Committee led by Soror Pamela Baker has had many successful programs/project such as the College Fair, Girl Power, and College Bound just to name a few.

COLLEGE BOUND Educational Development Committee: The College Bound Tour was held at New Manchester High School. This event provided parents and students with information to successfully prepare for the college application process. There were 5 workshops/seminars presented on the following topics: Financing College, Test Preparation, Application and Essays, Scholarship Eligibility and Getting Ready for College from the 9th - 12th grades. Volunteers assisted by handing out college resource brochures and answering questions from the community regarding GA Financial Aid.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH

Physical and Mental Health with Sorors Beverly Rodgers and Schonell Burroughs at the helm has made it their mission to see that we are physically fit. In line with our theme, 2013 by 2013, we have logged over 1000 miles as a chapter. We have participated in the AIDS walk

and we are getting ready for the Childhood Obesity Project in March..

Our International Awareness Committee, led by Wilhelmina Bagsby and JaMeria Slaton, has been hard at work with the Brown Baby Doll Project and Reading is Fundamental Project. Coming in March is our International Day of Service. Look for more information coming soon.

Social Action/Political Awareness with the passion of Sorors Cheryl Frazier and Tiffany Ringfield, have contacted all three counties in our service area. We are assisting with SHARE House, Carrollton Emergency Shelter, Domestic Violence Center and Voter Registration. They are diligently planning our Community Baby Shower and are looking forward to attending Delta Days at the Nation’s Capitol in February. Stay tuned for the Sex Trade Forum coming in March.

DCP ARTS AND LETTERS

Our Arts and Letters Committee with Sorors Tanya Poindexter and Latease Bailey as Co-Chairs make sure we are culturally informed. We started the year with a group of sorors going to the movies at Arbor Place Mall to see “The Help”. We also continued with our Book Club. The 1st book of the sororal year was The GQ Candidate. A group will be attending a performance by the Alvin Ailey Dance Group in February.

FUNDRAISING

“The Fundraising Committee led by Sorors Maxine Williamson and Norma Luster . These sorors along with their committee members have done a phenomenal job this year. The Diamond Hall & Convention Center was the place to be on November 19, 2011! The 3rd Annual Scholarship Cabaret was a huge success thanks to the FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE! They outdid themselves!! With the theme: Rep Your School, This Is How We Do It, the committee members decorated the tables to represent the different colleges and universities. The centerpieces were show stoppers, thanks to the brilliant mind of Soror Joi Freemont. If you missed this event, you missed out on a great evening of food, fun, and so much more. Congratulations to all who assisted in the success of this endeavor. A job well done" The tally is finally counted and all the funds have been counted. The 3rd Annual Scholarship Cabaret raised a grand total of $10,399.52! Can I get a round of applause for the fundraising and physical, mental health committee for their hard work in making this our most successful fundraising event to date! Soror Lolita Spears won best decorated table and another lucky winner won over $180 on the 50/50 raffle. The night was truly an enjoyable one to all who attended.

JABBERWOCK

Soror Sherry Adams started working last summer on this project and she has not stopped yet. Sorors have already won money by submitting names of participants for this year’s Jabberwock. She will continue with our reputation of having a first class program. Let’s assist Soror Adams and her committee in this great endeavor.

Ritual and ceremonies

Ritual and Ceremonies Committee chaired by Sorors Bettye Moorer and Barbara Redditt are making sure we are ready for our Centennial Celebration (2013) by frequently testing to see if we know our stuff. We will be ready sorors!

May Week/Scholarship

Our May Week/Scholarship Committee led by Sorors Kim Counts and Ayana Smith have been busy getting information to the high schools about our scholarships that will be awarded in April. They are also very busy planning for our May Week Block Party.

Policies & Procedures

The Policies and Procedures Committee with Sorors Wanda Mitchell and Brittany Gudger as Co-Chairs are busy going over our current Policies and Procedures for corrections, additions, and/or deletions. Sorors, please adhere to their instructions and deadlines that are coming soon.

Founder’s Day

Coming in February is our Founders Day-Statewide Cluster and DDAC. Our Immediate Past President, Soror Sharon Jones chairs this committee. We are the Host Chapter for this State event and have been meeting and planning since June. We were successful in getting our National President, Soror Cynthia McIntrye as the Sisterhood Luncheon Speaker. We are expecting about 2000 sorors in attendance. Register NOW so you will not be left out!

Regal Awards

Our newest committee is the Regal Awards chaired by Sorors Clara Taylor and Revonna Mitchell. This committee’s focus is to recognize the elected city officials, educators, religious leaders, etc. in our three service areas. Let’s get behind this committee in order to make its inaugural activity a big success

Anniversary

This year is a monumental one for our Anniversary Committee led by Sorors Jill Hill and Lesmer Orr and our Historian, Soror Lisa Simon. We will celebrate 5 years as a DCP Chapter in April. Sorors, this promises to be a memorable celebration at the Centre at Arbor Connection. Stay tuned for more information to come. Let’s support this endeavor by purchasing our Delta Sigma Theta flash drive and chrome car plate.

The new and improved DCP Website is up and running. Sorors are encouraged to take a look at the site located at dcpdst.com. The members’ only section is up DCP documents and other valuable information you may need.

DELTA G.E.M.S.

Sorors Elaine Thurman and Tameka Brown have done a great job with

getting the 55 G.E.M.S. inducted and introduced to the chapter. They have

completed several activities which include financial workshops, college seminars, participated in Christmas

parade, etc.
