PLUS NORTH
Plus North aimed to celebrate Beauty, *\Y]LZ� HUK� *VUÄKLUJL� HUK� [VVR�place one sunny Saturday afternoon
at the beautifully gothic venue of Aspire in Leeds.
The event was organised by two curvy fashion bloggers, Becky @mrsbebe_ and Toni @theonlywayist. Sponsors included :PTWS`� )L�� ,]HUZ�� )LULÄ[� *VZTL[PJZ��Curvissa, Excite Clothing and Tesco to name a few. As soon as I heard about the event and the fact that there was a bloggers catwalk, modelling Simply Be clothes, I knew I had to be there. Plus North was a lovely safe environment for people to accept the size they are and not be judged. Becky and Toni really did themselves proud and Plus North had a huge variety of brands on offer showing both current and future seasons, allowing the attendees a sneak preview of A/W’12. Located on the ground ÅVVY� ^HZ� [OL� HTHaPUN� ¸4PNO[`� )VV[O�¹�a fun photo booth complete with dress up props for the ultimate photographic momento. The queue for the booth proved it to be a welcome and popular activity. @fatcowmooscakes provided free cupcakes decorated with delicious icing and sparkles as well as fabulous brownies and macaroons. There was also a chance for a bit of pampering at the nail bar where you could get your nails painted in a miriade of colors in return for a donation to charity. +VUH[PUN�UL]LY�MLS[�ZV�NVVK�
There was of course a SLiNK magazine stand, and the lovely ladies from Stella and +V[� QL^LSSLY`� ^OV� ^LYL� HSZV� NP]PUN� OHUK�THZZHNLZ�� /LHKPUN� \W� [V� [OL� ÄYZ[� ÅVVY�there were retailers such as Simple Be, ,_JP[L�JSV[OPUN��+LH�3VUKVU��(UUL�/HY]L �̀�Chesca, Curvissa and Evans. Where there were a mixture of sample sales and next season sneak previews available! Once you ^LYL� MHZOPVULK� V\[� [OL� )LULÄ[� <2� [LHT�were on hand to offer make up advice and I noticed quite a few ladies taking advantage of a free makeover, well why not!
6UL�NYLH[�KPZJV]LY`�H[�[OPZ�ZOV^�^HZ�+LH�London, if you get to see their clothes you will understand what I mean. I tried a couple of jackets on and the quality was lovely. Great colors, fabrics and cut - just wonderful. On their website they say
¸8\HSP[`� NHYTLU[Z� THKL� MVY� [OL� L]LY`KH`�goddess in the working place.” I couldn’t agree more. These items of clothing were competitively priced and the lovely Jelena was happy to take our measurements in order to ensure the clothes were a perfect Ä[��
I also popped over to the Evans stall, where they were giving advice on how to dress for your shape. In case you’re not aware, Evans launched the “What’s your Shape” initiative at the end of 2011. This is means they will measure and tell you, what shape `V\�HYL��HWWSL��OV\YNSHZZ��WLHY��I\Z[`��HUK�advise what clothing is appropriate. For example, I’m an apple and Evans suggest Empire type lines and big prints. I’m not too sure about this as I tend to just try things and make a decision there and then as to whether I like something. It is an interesting concept though and it will probably work for H�SV[�VM�WLVWSL�^OV�ÄUK�ZOVWWPUN�Z[YLZZM\S�and want to simplfy their wardrobe troubles. As part of the festivities of Plus North, bloggers had been asked to volunteer as models for the Simply Be catwalk show. A proper catwalk was set up on the ground ÅVVY�^P[O�WSLU[`�VM� ZLH[PUN� MVY� ZWLJ[H[VYZ��The 13 catwalking bloggers rocked out a range of Simply Be on trend pieces and really plucked up some courage to also display a selection of lingerie. While everyone was nervous, it felt very empowering to do it and everyone looked fabulous! Maybe it was the fact that this was a safe accepting environment, unlike the outside world. Where we were welcomed with open arms. With well over 100 tickets sold, this will hopefully become a regular event! With talks of moving the event to a different Northern city every time!
