BOOK OF THE DEAD During November, we remember the faithful departed. Throughout our Chris-tian tradition, the time of harvest is

linked with God’s harvest; the gathering-in of the faithful. As is our custom, the Book of the Dead will be displayed at both Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s during November. We encourage you to enter into the book the names of loved ones who have died this year. We will display the book during the entire month of November and re-member those listed through our prayers.

PARISH OFFICE CLOSED The Parish Office will be closed from 8:00 am-1:00 pm on Monday, November 4 for a staff in-service.

Dear Friends in Christ,

The pastoral vision of our archdiocese is: One Church, Encountering Jesus, Equipping Disciples, and Living Mercy.

What does it mean to be “One Church”? In the past few months, we have had the opportunity to work in a cluster of parishes. Initial efforts are being made to support the endeavors of our sister parishes within the cluster and to find ways to do some things in common. This is a very positive step. We must avoid the temptation to identify ourselves primarily as a parish; rather, we must identify ourselves as members of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ Himself! This involves being aware we are part of a body that stretches across the globe and being aware that we are united by the Holy Father and those bishops in communion with him.

Being part of this Church founded by Christ also involves a profound awareness that we are a people united with a past as well as a present. As we move into the future, we must recognize that we have received the faith from those who have gone before us, and that we must preserve it, cher-ish it, and pass it on to those who will come after us. We do not create our faith anew in each gen-eration. Instead, we embrace our Catholic faith that we have received and find ways to pass the same Catholic faith held by the saints throughout the ages to those around us today.

In Christ,

Fr. Pat

As you pray about your response for our parish Stewardship renewal, please also consider a meaningful gift to help our archdiocese serve those in need.

Thank you to everyone who supported our annual “We are One” Parish Festival. You did it! ♦ We increased our Raffle ticket sales by 3,600 and raised our net profit this year to

$25,500 to help support all ministries of our parish. ♦ You donated; with over $7,000 in prizes won between Raffle and Bingo! ♦ You served one another; as nearly 260 stewards gave of their time and talents to the

tune of 520 plus hours. ♦ We ate! Oh boy did we eat, as we enjoyed homemade pies, home cooked meals,

flavorful treats from our heritage, and 2,500 pounds of ribs!! But even more than that, our guests and families enjoyed one another and the great hospi-tality from so many of our parish’s disciples. God is so good!
