Who’s opening and Where

The Fresh Market, Inc. (336-272-1338) plans to open a Fresh Market location at Fresh Market Commons, a center located at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 155 in Latham, NY which is currently under redevelopment. The supermarket chain currently operates 85 of the stores, which feature bakery, butcher, deli, seafood, cheese, produce and organic food departments.

MOM’s Organic Market (301-816-1133) will open a grocery store at Hilltop Plaza, located at the intersection of Route 450/Annapolis Road and Race Track Road in Bowie, MD, during the fall. The company currently operates five stores, offering only organic produce and local and organic meats along with health foods and supplements, throughout Alexandria, College Park, Columbia, Frederick and Rockville, MD and plans to open another 12 stores by 2015.

Piggly Wiggly, LLC (920-457-4433), through a franchisee, will open stores in the Tuscaloosa/Northport, AL metropolitan area during the next several years. The company recently opened its fourth store in the area in a former Winn-Dixie site along Culver Road in Tuscaloosa.

hhgregg, Inc. (317-848-8710), as previously reported, will open between 20 to 22 hhgregg locations by March 2010, the end of the company’s 2010 fiscal year, up from previous estimates of 16 to 18 openings. During its 2011 fiscal year, the company plans to open between 40 and 45 stores throughout the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., including the Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA and Washington, DC metropolitan areas, with some openings in former Circuit City sites. The stores offer consumer electronics and household appliances, and typically occupy 30,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 112 units throughout AL, FL, GA, IN, KY, NC, OH, SC and TN.

Specialty Retailers, Inc. (713-667-5601), a subsidiary of Stage Stores, Inc., purchased the Goody’s Family Clothing name last month and plans to open stores, offering family apparel, during the fall, including sites in Dayton, Kimbel and Rogersville, TN.

Savers, Inc. (425-462-1515) will open two Savers thrift stores throughout MN during 2010. The company opened a store in a former Hollywood Video site in Apple Valley earlier this month.

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. (336-725-2981), through a franchisee, will open three Krispy Kreme doughnut shops throughout Tucson, AZ before the end of the year. The company opened its first shop in Tucson, along North Cortaro Road, during June. Through the franchisee, the company operates six locations throughout Phoenix, AZ in addition to the Tucson site.

7-Eleven, Inc. (972-828-0711) plans to open 200 7-Eleven locations nationwide this year, with a focus on the Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; Daytona Beach, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Tampa, FL; Baltimore, MD; New York, NY; Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX, and Washington, DC markets. Expansion is, in part, being conducted through the company’s Business Conversion Program, a franchise program where an existing convenience store converts to a 7-Eleven.

The Buckle, Inc. (440-934-1415) plans to open 20 stores, trading as Buckle and The Buckle, this year in addition to remodeling an additional 21 stores. The company currently operates 391 teen apparel stores nationwide throughout 40 states.

Best Buy Co., Inc. (612-291-1000) plans to open a Best Buy in a former Linens ‘N Things site at Ventura Gateway, a 270,000 sq.ft. center located along Telephone Road in Ventura, CA, pending an agreement between the company and the city regarding tax subsidies. The tenant will join Kohl’s, Barnes & Noble, Michaels, PetSmart and Pier 1 Imports. The company also plans to open a store in a former Circuit City site at Midtown Village, a lifestyle center located at the intersection of 15th Street and McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa, AL during October. The company currently operates 1,000 stores, selling consumer electronics and appliances nationwide and throughout Europe, including 15 stores in AL.

GameStop Corp. (817-424-2000) will open as many as 400 GameStop stores nationwide and internationally during its 2010 fiscal year, including stores in Canada, Australia and Europe. The company recently completed its acquisition of Micromania, a 332-store video game chain in France. The company currently operates 6,244 stores, selling new and used video games, consoles and accessories, nationwide and internationally throughout 17 countries.

Meijer, Inc. (616-453-6711) plans to open a 200,000 sq.ft. Meijer supermarket at Shoppes at Gateway Park, a 380,000 sq.ft. development situated on 35 acres at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Eight Mile in Detroit, MI. Marshalls and HomeGoods are also slated to open stores at the center. The company currently operates 189 supermarkets throughout IL, IN, KY, MI and OH.

Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) will open a Nordstrom department store at Fashion Island, a 1.5 million sq.ft. open-air lifestyle center located in Newport Beach, CA. The shopping center is currently under a redevelopment and scheduled to be completed by November 2011. A Dean & Deluca gourmet food store is also slated to open at the center. The tenants join Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and Juicy Couture.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) plans to open 30 Kohl’s department stores throughout CA this fall, including a store located in San Luis Obispo scheduled to open next month. With the openings, the company will operate 121 units throughout CA and 1,022 units nationwide throughout 49 states.

Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services (925-953-1716) promoted Michael Zimmerman to vice president, investments in the company’s Ft. Lauderdale, FL office. He specializes in the sale of retail properties. The company also named Tim Giambrone, Andrew Mays, William McCall and Daniel Molloy as vice presidents, investments in the company’s Atlanta, GA office. The brokerage company specializes in commercial real estate investment services.

PM Realty Capital, LLC (212-277-8252) was recently formed by Peter Berk and Michael Sonnabend and is based in New York, NY. The company will offer real estate investment banking services nationwide. Prior to forming the company, Berk and Sonnabend served at AFC Realty Capital.

McKinley (734-769-8520) promoted Jason Schaller to vice president and regional director for the company’s Southeast portfolio. Prior to the promotion, Schaller served as head of the company’s NC and VA client services teams.
