Nisku Spine Road’s grand opening ribbon was held Nov. 23; Leduc County mayor John Whaley cuts the ribbon. During the short presentation attendees were told the need for the road, which was constructed to alleviate regional traffi c fl ow on Highway 2, was identifi ed approximately 20 years ago. This is only the fi rst phase of the road and construction began May, 2015. The total cost of the project was $15 million. The Government of Canada contributed roughly $6 million through the Building Canada Fund–Major Infrastructure Component and Leduc County provided the remaining funds.


Drivers use Leduc County as dumping grounds

Leduc County residents and staff alike are fi nding the ditches of the coun-

ty to be a mess of litter as travellers are using the sides of rural roads and highways as their own per-sonal dumping grounds.

On average, county staff take to the roads two to three times a week to clean up the areas.

“Spring and fall and the end of the month are gen-erally worse possibly due to people moving,” said Stone.

There are also some areas of the coun-ty being hit worse than others. “East and west of Beaumont, north of Hwy 625 on roads leading south into the County from the City of Edmonton; east of Leduc between highways 625 and 623,” said Stone.
