SOROPTIMISTS SAY THANK YOU TO VALLEY COUNTY!! The wonderful people of Glasgow and Valley County came out in droves to make thisyears Block of Bucks another successful year. This was another record year as an incredible$30,019 was collected to be distributed to 91 families with 214 registered children. Thanks to the many people and organizations who make this event happen. Thanks tothe volunteers who helped collect donations on Friday, December 5th. Pacic Steel andRecycling employees staffed one collection site all day. Glasgow Student Council membersand Soroptimists, along with other volunteers staffed the other collection location. FirstCommunity Bank provided the headquarters for money counting again this year, and FCB

employees helped us prepare funds for Saturdays shopping event. Huge thank yous toKLTZ, the Glasgow Courier and The BS Buzz for all the tremendous media coverage theyprovided throughout the month of November and the week leading up to the event. Thehourly reports on KLTZ kept the excitement building throughout collection day. Sincerethanks to the National Guard for allowing us to store our Block of Bucks collection boxesat the armory all year. We are very grateful to the Odd Fellows for use of their hall on Saturday morningwhere families and volunteers met and prepared for the shopping day. A very big thankyou to the Ofce of Public Assistance who registered the 214 children so that they couldparticipate in the event. Shopping would not be possible without the nearly 30 volunteersfrom throughout our community who took each family shopping at our participatingretailers. Thank you to D&G, Killions, Little Campers and Shopko for the generousdiscounts they provided. This made the $140 each child had for shopping go along way toproviding them the warm clothing they desperately needed.

We sincerely appreciate the grants that were provided by corporations who are part ofour community. TranCanada Corporation donated a $2000 grant to the program. Shopkoprovided a $1000 grant. Thank you to the many local businesses that gave so generouslyto our efforts. We appreciate all of the services and donations from everyone involved inthis county wide project.

Walt Sales, a ourth-generation armer in theGallatin Valley near Bozeman who is serving as anhonorary co-chair, said water rights are a huge actorwhen assessing property values, a compact will eliminatethat climate o uncertainty that may stagnate our localreal estate market and collateral capacity. Scott Reichner, a business owner and Republicanmember o the legislature who was recognized in 2011as the most valuable policy maker by the MontanaChamber of Commerce, has also joined the eort.

Most notably, he was also a one-time critic whovoted against the compact in 2013, but now sees a pathorward afer a bipartisan committee o legislatorsconducted an exhaustive investigation and unanimouslyrecommended changes that the compact negotiators arenow working through. Reichner said, this will lead to amore balanced compact that can stand the test o time.
