Term Ends Thursday 12/4!!!

What do you need to do in order to get the

grades that you want?

Page 2: Monday december 1, 2014

Warm Up-

1. How was your Thanksgiving Break? What

was something you did that was fun?

2. What do you remember about the

digestive system?

Page 3: Monday december 1, 2014

Students will be able to name the organs

that make up the digestive system and

describe what these organs do

Page 4: Monday december 1, 2014

Use the reading on the Digestive System

(From Tuesday) and your group to fill out the

organs that make up the digestive system

and their functions

On back of sheet, add

9. liver

10. pancreas

11. gall bladder

On the back, write the three functions of the

Digestive System

Warm Up-

Share your cartoon with the

people in your group.

Looking for AT LEAST ONE

PERSON TO SHARE FROM ACH

GROUP

Page 9: Monday december 1, 2014

Students will be able to analyze the

functions of the digestive system

Page 10: Monday december 1, 2014

Number Organ Function- what does it do?

1 Mouth 1. Teeth break down food mechanically

2. Saliva breaks down food chemically

2 Esophagus Long muscular tube lined with mucus that connects the

mouth to the stomach; muscles contract to push food to

stomach

3 Stomach J shaped muscular tube that expands while you eat;

1.Mechanical & chemical digestion- three strong layers

of smooth muscle contract to produce a churning

motion; mixes food with liquid

2. Food remains until turned into thick liquid

4 Small

intestine

Largest part of the digestive system; nutrients being

absorbed; chemical digestion

5 Large

intestine

Water absorbed; contain bacteria that feed on material

passing through

6 Rectum Short tube where waste material is compressed into a

solid form

7 Anus Muscular opening at the end of the rectum where

materials are eliminated from the body

8 Digestive

System

1. Breaks down food into smaller molecules

2. The molecules are absorbed into the blood an carried

throughout the body

3. Wastes are eliminated from the body

Page 11: Monday december 1, 2014

Liver- produces bile (substance that breaks

apart fat particles); largest organ inside the

body

Gallbladder- stores the bile

Pancreas- triangular organ that produces

enzymes that flow into the small intestine

and helps break down starches, proteins, and

fats

Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus; liver, gallbladder, pancreas

Breaks down food into smaller molecules; absorbs molecules into blood through the small intestine and carried throughout the body; wastes are eliminated from the body

Circulatory System-Nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream and blood takes them throughout the body to the cells; Muscular System- stomach is made up of muscle

Liver produces bile, gallbladder stores bile, liver, pancreas, gallbladder are not apart of the path of food; mechanical and chemical digestion; uses nutrients for cellular respiration

Page 15: Monday december 1, 2014

On a separate sheet of paper..

1. List the path in which your food takes from

beginning to end

2. What are the functions of the digestive

system?

Page 16: Monday december 1, 2014

Warm Up-

What do you think you know about the

circulatory system?

Page 17: Monday december 1, 2014

Students will be able to

1. identify parts of the circulatory system and

2. analyze the functions of the circulatory system
