Pennsylvania State Farm Show • Premium List • January 9-16, 20215-2

RULES

1. Entries: ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE AND PAID ONLINE. Each exhibitor may enter and exhibit no more than two entries in any one class. The open show entry fee is $20 per animal and must accompany the online entry application. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to see that entries are made correctly and on time.

2. Ownership: Females may show with joint ownership provided one of the owners is the exhibitor. Bulls may show with joint ownership provided one of the owners is the exhibitor and that the bull was maintained on the exhibitor’s farm at least four months of the preceding year. To be eligible for showing, the original registration certificate must be presented and must show the transfer of ownership of purchased animals, or the registry of cattle bred by the exhibitor, no later than the date entries close for the Farm Show.

3. Tattoo identification: To be eligible to show, all animals must have a legible tattoo that agrees with the registration certificate.4. All Other Breeds: An AOB division is established for those breeds that fail to meet the minimum 15-head exhibited rule and for those breeds

not represented by an individual breed show. A breed is defined as a recognized breed registry with a closed herd book. In the case of recognized breeds with an open herd book, the individuals entered in the show must be designated as “purebred” (with the singular exception of Maine-Anjou, which must have a tan-colored registration paper), as defined above, and recorded in the registry with a regular registration number (not an appendix number). All Other Breeds is defined as registered animals whose sire and dam both arise from the same purebred registry. In the case of recognized breeds within an open herd book, the individuals entered in the show must be designated as “purebred” by the association’s designated colored registration certificate. Cattle registered as ShorthornPlus, Chianina, and ChiAngus only may also be exhibited in this division. Chianina and ChiAngus breeding cattle must have a minimum of 6.25% Chianina blood and ACA registration papers. For questions about eligibility, please check with Show Superintendent Walter Bumgarner ([email protected]).

5. Extra Stall Space: Prior to the entry deadline, exhibitors with one to four cattle may purchase up to two total extra spaces and exhibitors with more than four cattle may purchase up to four total extra spaces. Each additional space costs $20.00.

6. Blocking Chutes: A $40 fee must be paid prior to November 3, 2019, for each beef cattle blocking chute to be used during the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Each firm, farm, or family is limited to one chute for one to three animals, two chutes for four to six animals, etc. A fee of $50 must be paid for the first chute above these limits and $100 each for all others. A sticker will be furnished by Show Management to serve as proof of payment. Blocking chutes must have this sticker affixed to the right rear upright at eye level. All chutes must be kept out of aisles and in designated areas or they will be removed from the grounds.

7. Barns Open: The barns will be open on January 2, 2021 and January 3, 2021, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. for beds to be prepared. Barns will close promptly at the listed times and exhibitors must immediately leave. Tie-outs cannot be reserved prior to 8 a.m. on January 2, 2021. All tie outs must be reserved with a sign listing the exhibitor or farm name and a phone number. Any beds prepared or signs placed prior to the listed date will be removed by Show Management.

8. Stalling: The available room for beef cattle is limited. Stalls will be assigned on the basis of the number of entries by each exhibitor. Each exhibitor’s area will be clearly marked and there will be a chart posted listing stalling assignments. All exhibitors will use stalls assigned them. These facilities are to be used only to tie livestock. In the case of animals entered but not exhibited, management will reassign excess stalls as deemed necessary.

9. Check-In: Open-only Simmental, Maine-Anjou, MaineTainer, SimAngus/SimGenetics, and AOB division breeding cattle entries will be checked in on Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. All other open and junior breeding cattle entries will be checked in from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Exhibitors must furnish original breed registration papers at that time. No photostats, facsimilies, or copies will be accepted. Tattoos will also be checked at that time. All required tattoos must be legible and match registration papers.

10. Grooming: Use only grooming products that are approved for use on meat-producing animals when fitting any animal for show. Unapproved products may contain ingredients that result in unacceptable residues in the meat. If it is not certain that a product is residue safe and approved for use on meat animals, don’t use it!

11. Unethical Fitting: Any animal showing any evidence of unethical fitting practices such as tampering with the natural fleshing and muscle development (including but NOT limited to drenching and pumping of fluids) will be barred from the show and no premiums will be awarded. No exhibitors shall be allowed to use any coloring agents on any animal exhibited. The Farm Show may adopt and implement various tests designed to monitor this prohibition, including but not limited to a “white glove” or “white towel” test. No aerosol cans or other pressurized containers will be allowed in designated makeup areas. Designated makeup areas will be the Lower Spine and arena areas. Any exhibitor found to be using coloring agents will forfeit all ribbons and premiums and will not be permitted to show for one year.

12. Splitting large classes: Farm Show Management shall have the option of splitting any beef cattle class greater than 10 head. This will be accomplished by dividing the class as evenly as possible without splitting animals with the same birth date. Full premiums will be awarded in each class.

13. Group Classes: Family members’ animals registered in Junior members’ names and entered in the Open Show may be treated as family entries in the group classes, as long as juniors are 19 years old or less as of January 1 of current year. For the purpose of Premier Exhibitor and Premier Breeder points, an exhibitor will be considered a Jr. member and their family as one, as explained above.

14. Animals Entered and Not Shown: A penalty of $100.00 per animal will be assessed to the owner for each beef animal entered and not exhibited (shown) at the Farm Show. Entries cancelled on or before December 23, 2020, will cause forfeiture of entry fees without penalty. In extreme or unusual circumstances, a written appeal of the assessment of the penalty or vet excuse will be considered if received by the Farm Show Manager on or before January 22, 2021.

15. Release Time: All beef cattle are dismissed at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. Cattle must vacate the North Hall by 9 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. Cattle may remain in tie-outs until 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13. Any exhibit removed prior to the listed times without Show Management approval will result in forfeiture of all premiums.

16. Supreme Champions: A Supreme Champion Bull and a Supreme Champion Female will be selected from the Grand Champions of all breeds at the conclusion of the beef cattle show on Monday, January 11, 2021. $250 will be award to the Supreme Champion Bull and Supreme Champion Female.

17. Nose Ring/Lead: All bulls 10 months of age or older must be shown with a nose lead or ring.

OPEN CLASS • PARTICIPATION STATEMENT AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATION

The American Angus Association®, 3201 Frederick Ave., St. Joseph, Mo., will participate in premiums offered for open class Angus breeding cattle classes according to the premium schedule based on the number of head shown. The premium assistance provided by the American Angus Association for participation in this show is in addition to the premiums offered by the show itself. The premium assistance should not be used to offset show expense and shall be included in the premium payments distributed by the show to the exhibitors.

A minimum of 50 head must be shown in the open class division to receive American Angus Association premium participation for the following year.

Premiums from the Association are paid only to registered Angus cattle and only if the registration number is a part of the show report provided to the Association. Therefore, all cattle should be registered at the time of entry to make certain they receive the Association’s portion of premiums. The Association does not pay on championship or any group classes (i.e. get-of-sire, junior get-of-sire, or breeder six-head).

Exhibitors must have the original registration certificate issued by the American Angus Association available for inspection at the show for each animal or another current proof of ownership issued by the American Angus Association pedigree look-up. Any animal upon check-in that does not have a legible permanent identification mark (ear tattoo marks, freeze-branded marks, or hot-branded marks) corresponding to the permanent identification mark on the registration certificate is ineligible to show. Once disqualified due to an incorrect or illegible permanent identification mark, animals cannot be re-identified (tattooed/branded) and rechecked at the show.

Any female shown with a calf at side: The calf must be the cow’s most recent natural calf, and the calf must be registered by show day and have proof of registration at check-in.

Only one person at a time shall lead an animal into the show ring.Exhibitors who participate in shows that accept premium monies contributed by the American Angus Association are subject to the Association

Rules as found in the Breeders Reference Guide of the Association. These rules are found in Part 2: Association Rules. The rules relating directly with the exhibition of Angus cattle are Part 2: Association Rules; Rule 800 Series; including Rule 800-810. These rules can be found at www.angus.org.

Altering the conformation and/or appearance of an animal for exhibition is prohibited. This includes the covering of white skin, false tail heads (or use of any false hair), with the exception of false tail switches. The use of graphite, powders, hemp, or other similar substances used externally are also prohibited. Other prohibited products include those used internally such as steroids, illegal or unlicensed pharmaceuticals, or artificial filling. Any animal found to be in violation will be barred from showing.

At any show for which the American Angus Association appropriates funds toward the payment of premiums, no exhibitors, individuals assisting exhibitors, or member owners at such show shall be allowed to use any coloring agents on any animal exhibited. The Association may adopt and implement various tests designed to monitor this prohibition, including but not limited to a “white towel” or “white glove” test. No aerosol cans or other pressurized containers will be allowed in designated lineup areas.

All animals exhibited are subject to DNA marker or blood type test to verify accuracy of parentage as covered under the Association Rules and for other testing as required by the individual show.

Authorized representatives of the Association have the authority to enforce the rules set forth herein as well as in the Association Rules, including the barring of a registered animal from a livestock show at which it is to be shown if there are reasonable grounds to believe a violation has occurred.

Premiums from the Association are paid only to registered Angus cattle and only if the registration number is a part of the show report provided to the Association. Therefore, all cattle should be registered at the time of entry to make certain they receive the Association’s portion of premiums. The Association does not pay on premiums offered in championship classes. An animal may only be counted one time toward the total count for premium participation by the Association.

Exhibitors must have the original registration certificate issued by the American Angus Association available for inspection at the show for each animal or another current proof of ownership issued by the American Angus Association pedigree look-up. Any animal, upon check-in, that does not have a legible permanent identification mark (ear tattoo marks, freeze-branded marks, or hot-branded marks) corresponding to the permanent identification mark on the registration certificate is ineligible to show. Once disqualified due to an incorrect or illegible permanent identification mark, animals cannot be re-identified (tattooed/branded) and re-checked at the show.

Any female shown with a calf at side: The calf must be the cow’s most recent natural calf, and the calf must be registered by show day and have proof of registration at check-in.

Only one person at a time shall lead an animal into the show ring.Exhibitors who participate in shows that accept premium monies contributed by the American Angus Association are subject to the Association Rules

as found in the Breeders Reference Guide of the Association. These rules are found in Part 2; Association Rules.

Authorized representatives of the Association have the authority to enforce the rules set forth herein as well as in the Association Rules, including the barring of a registered animal from a livestock show at which it is to be shown, if there are reasonable grounds to believe a violation has occurred.

AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATIONSTANDARD CLASSIFICATION FOR JUNIOR HEIFER SHOWS

THIS CLASSIFICATION IS EFFECTIVE FOR SHOWS FROM JANUARY 1, 2021, TO MAY 31, 2021

Only registered Angus cattle that meet the age requirements listed within this classification are eligible to receive premium participation and be counted in the total number of head shown. Champion and Reserve Champion placings are not counted in number of head shown.

Any classes listed in this classification that exceed 15 head per class should be broken into smaller classes. This should be accomplished by dividing the class as evenly as possible without splitting animals with the same birth date.

Example 1: If 16 head are entered in Class 4, the class should be broken into two classes of eight; a class of seven and nine; or a class of 10 and six.Example 2: If 32 head are entered in Class 4, the class should be divided into three classes consisting of two classes with 11 head and one class of 10

head or similar without putting animals with the same birth date in different classes.Class breaks will be at the discretion of the American Angus Association staff in attendance.
