Project Overview

Scobie McIntosh were awarded the contract to design, develop and install the catering facilities on board an o shore oil facility situated in the North Sea.

Scobie’s management approach and the breadth of its service capabilities were critical factors in the client awarding us the contract.

e Scobie team are fully conversant with the specialised require-ments relating to working within an o shore environment. Accus-tomed as we were to operate in a logistically challenging environ-ment with demanding security and safety requirements.

Business Challenge

e Scobie team overcame signi cant challenges including adopting extensive health and safety standards and utilising the limited space available. Since the Piper Alpha incident, there are particular challenges to o shore projects in that every aspect of supplying the required equipment is subject to extensive health and safety requirements.

Despite the logistical constraints of delivering this project on board an oil rig, the project team was able to draw on experience from earlier projects to successfully deliver the project.

Scobie McIntosh also encountered other challenges. Electricity sup-plies can vary depending on which sector of the North Sea the rig is positioned, and the nationality of the company that operate the rig. We had to ensure that this was taken into account when design-ing and installing.

To further complicate ma ers, our team had to take into considera-tion the expected yaw and pitch of a rig when it is being moved or operated which can be quite considerable.

Scobie McIntosh designed,

created and managed a team of

highly skilled engineers who

equipped the oil platform with

high quality galleys. The team

were responsible for successfully

installing high quality equipment

while undergoing some of the

most rigorous health and safety

checks
