1. Answer:Who did you see as people involved in the problem?

2. Brainstorm- LOTS OF IDEAS, the CRAZIER the better!- Share ideas, LISTEN to team members -Write down all ideas on post-it notes / in workbook

3. Select-Which idea(s) address the root cause of the problem? -How will you know if the idea(s) will work?

Page 17: Design For Change Laos Training Workshop

• Example Problem: Name Calling

• Why does it happen?

Low Self esteem -> wanting attention -> peer pressure -> name calling

Design solutions for the ROOT CAUSE.

Remove the root cause, and you remove the problem

Document your story. 3 min video to show your –feel – imagine – do – stages.

If any students know how to take photos/video and edit videos let them do it. If not, let them learn.

Easy to use Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows). For MAC, use iMovie.

MS Powerpoint is OK too, but not as compelling as video.

WHAT IS DESIGN FOR CHANGE?

• It is a global movement designed to give young people an opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action.

• Moving students from passive (“Can I?”) to ACTIVE (“I CAN!”).
