1. Introduction
The Trees4Future network aims to integrate, and foster strong interactions among the major European forestry communities and their resources for the first time. It will provide the European forestry community and wider research community with easy and comprehensive access to currently scattered sources of information and expertise to optimise the short and long-term exploitation of forest resources. Trees4Future cooperation will also come up with improved infrastructures by combining complementary infrastructures, tools and knowledge, enabling improved research on physical environment vs genetics, basic wood properties vs end-products quality, as well as different scales of study. Trees4Future will also design a research agenda on future research needs in this field.
Thus, it is of essential importance to disseminate information to various target audiences. This includes information on the existing infrastructures being offered to potential users, the new knowledge and results gained, and future research needs. The Trees4Future dissemination portfolio aims to
- inform various target groups about the infrastructures offered by Trees4Future - inform various target groups of the activities and results of Trees4Future - promote the potential benefits of forest sciences contributing to societal needs.
This current Deliverable report provides a general presentation of the current state of the
dissemination portfolio after the project has been actively operational for approximately 6
months (after kick-off meeting in January 2012). However, it is intended to complement
the Dissemination Portfolio throughout the project, as described in the Dissemination and
Outreach Plan (D4.1).
2. Dissemination portfolio
2.1 Publications
Trees4Future publications include scientific and professional journal articles, brochures,
bi-annual newsletter, flyers for distribution at conferences, press releases, multimedia
etc.
A Press Release was issued in connection with the project kick-off in January 2012. Annex 1.
It was also translated to, amongst others, Finnish and German, and sent to national media
with the help of the project partners. The aim is to produce further press releases after
each important Trees4Future seminar or event, or upon publication of an important project
result, and made available to project partners for distribution.
a project factsheet was published in March 2012. Annex 2.

an E-Newsletter to promote the Call for Accesses to infrastructures was launched on 15 June
when the Call for Accesses was opened, and was widely distributed to various networks and
stakeholders. Annex 3.
EU Commission published a Project Factsheet in May 2012. Annex 4.
A Trees4Future brochure was published in July 2012. Annex 5.
An article in “Innovation International” to promote the project was published in July 2012.
Annex 6.
2.2 Trees4Future website/portal
The Trees4Future portal at www.trees4future.eu was first launched in March 2012 and has
been designed to serve as a user-friendly gateway to the infrastructures – the ones offered
through Calls for Access, as well as the ones to be developed in the course of the project.
The Trees4Future website/portal is used as a window to present and discuss network
results, publications and other outputs. The dissemination of information through the
network website includes relevant news and information about milestones or products, and
also about relevant policy developments at the European level or in the Member States
when relevant. Lastly, the website also serves to alert interested parties about the
project’s progress, new developments and milestones, and provides downloadable
intermediate and final network results. More information on the website is provided in
Deliverable 4.2 Trees4Future portal.
Later on, once there will be a steadier news flow from the project, it is planned to use
also social media (eg Twitter, Facebook) to enhance the Trees4Future visibility of the
Trees4Future website, further raise awareness of Trees4Future among target audiences
and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
2.3 Other
Moreover, a general powerpoint presentation has been prepared for the project partners’
use . Annex 7.
A Trees4Future powerpoint and poster template have also been designed, see Annexes 8
and 9.
It is intended to prepare a general roll-up poster for Trees4Future in August 2012.

3. Conclusion
At this stage of the project, only a basic toolkit for dissemination activities has been
provided. It is planned to add to the Dissemination portfolio on a continuous basis as the
project advances, according to the Trees4Future Work Plan and the Dissemination,
outreach and training plan. Future dissemination products of Trees4Future will include,
inter alia:
further Newsletter(s) on the Trees4Future activities & results.
Press releases issued after each important project event and made available to project
partners for distribution
A synthesising policy brief and a multimedia on the main outcomes will be published at the
end of the project, highlighting the main results and their potential impacts
presentations at relevant events, training and other workshops and briefings for various
stakeholder groups, including industry, professional community, EU commission officials and
other policy makers and NGOs.

TIEDOTE 3.2.2012
Eurooppalaiset metsäntutkimuksen tietokannat ja asiantuntemus yhteiskäyttöön
Euroopan metsäsektorin keskeiset tutkimusinfrastruktuurit, kuten tietokannat, analyysilaitteet ja
ennustemallit, tullaan avaamaan tutkijoiden ja muiden käyttäjäryhmien kuten teollisuuden
yhteiskäyttöön. Samalla rakennetaan yhteisiä innovatiivisia työkaluja hyödyntämään eurooppalaista
metsäntutkimusta.
Nelivuotisessa Trees4Future – hankkeessa luodaan portaali, josta pääsee tärkeimpiin
metsägenetiikan ja metsäekologian eurooppalaisiin tietokantoihin ja laboratorioihin. Näin Euroopan
tiedeyhteisö pääsee hyödyntämään nykyisin hajallaan olevaa tietoa ja asiantuntemusta. Tätä
kautta tutkimustyö on tehokkaampaa hyödyntäen koko yhteiskuntaa, esimerkiksi metsien
sopeutumisessa ilmastonmuutokseen sekä ekotehokkaiden puupohjaisten tuotteiden ja palveluiden
tuottamisessa.
Hanke tarjoaa suomalaisille metsäalan yrityksille, tutkimuslaitoksille ja yliopistoille mahdollisuuksia
käyttää eurooppalaisia infrastruktuureja, joita ei ole Suomessa. Tutkijat ja muut käyttäjät voivat
hyödyntää 28 hankkeeseen osallistuvan tahon asiantuntemusta, palveluja ja tietokantoja, vaikkapa
Itävallan metsäntutkimuslaitoksen genetiikan laitoksen molekyylilaboratoriota, tai ruotsalaisen
Innventian puukuidun mittauskeskuksen SilviScan –laitteistoa.
Suomesta hankkeessa ovat mukana Metsäntutkimuslaitos (Metla) ja Euroopan metsäinstituutti (EFI),
joilla on keskeinen rooli mm. infrastruktuurit saataville tarjoavan portaalin rakentamisessa. Metla
puiteohjelma. Hanketta koordinoi Ranskan maatalous- ja metsäntutkimuslaitos INRA.
