Scotland is a country of the United Kingdom of GreatBritain and Northern Ireland. The capital Edinburgh,Scotland occupies the northern third of the island ofGreat Britain having included in it over 790 islands andbounded to the south with England.

On September 18, 2014 in Scotland held aindependence referendum, in which majority of thepopulation held that Scotland will continue on to be partof the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern

Ireland, rejecting the idea of separation and create aindependent state.

The landscape consists of:

Mountains, the highest in the UK. Munros mountains with peaks that reach914,4m. The highest peaks are Ben Nevis 1343m, Ben Macdhui 1309m, 1296mBraeriach., Cairntoul 1293m, 1245m Cairngorm. Scotland is recognized as acountry with a beautiful mountain landscape.

Rivers: 26 rivers flowing directly into the sea. The largest are: Tay (Dundee),Clyde (Glasgow), Forth (Edinburgh)

Scotland is famous for its lakes, "loch". Thewest coast is intersected by large lakes (sealochs), the longest being Loch Fyne. Freshwaterlakes include Loch Ness, which has a depth of

132m - 230m. Other lakes: Loch Lomond, LochAwe and others.Climate, very changeable, is temperate andoceanic. In the west of Scotland is warmer thanthe Atlantic Ocean in the east due to currents.

From the North Sea is the coldest. Tiree, in theInner Hebrides, is one of the sunniest places inScoia.inuturile High (Highlands) in the westare the wettest.
