MEMBER SPOTLIGHT!!Jefferson Parish Recreation would like to give a special feature to Ms. Alice Millet, one of our

Golden Age members. At 94 years old, she has seen so much more than most of us cangrasp and we would like to honor her lifetime of experience, especially her time in military

service.

Ms. Millet says that her fondest memory is when, in 1944, at age nineteen, she saw a fe-male Naval Officer. Her interest certainly piqued, she was unfortunately told that she had to

be 20 to enlist. With World War II raging at the time, that year of waiting must have beenfrustrating to endure. As soon as she could, upon turning 20, her mother helped her sign up

to join the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), which was theUnited States Naval Reserve for women during World War II. With women in the armedforces here at home, more men were able to be sent to combat. Without Ms. Millet andthose like her, World War II would have certainly dragged on longer than it already did.

Ms. Millet was herself a yeoman during 1944-45, and did clerical work in an office while sta-tioned at Naval Air Station Alameda in California, after taking her boot camp training in NewYork. She was discharged from service on November 20, 1945, almost three months after

the official end of World War II.

We are very proud to have Ms. Millet as one of our own here in Jefferson Parish. Each Golden Age function she attends is that much more distinguished

because of her presence.

JPRD GOLDEN AGERS CELEBRATE 6O YEARS!!JPRD is proud to present our 60th Anniversary Golden Age Ball that will be held on Sunday, February 10th. If you

are 50 years or older and would love to attend, please call Jessica or Patti for reservations at 736-6999.
